Chapter 91 Surgery anyone?
When Logan arrives at the hospital, Ricky was waiting in the lobby. He walked him to the elevator. "I stayed with her until you got here. Christopher called Lorelai and then He and Lana left when Lorelai got here." "Thanks, I really appreciate that. I know you must be tired. Call an Uber to take you home." Logan told him. "I will, I just want to check on Rory one more time." When they got off the elevator, Dr. Boyett was at the nurse's station. "Logan, I see you made it. I think our little momma was worried." "Yes, I just landed. I was going to surprise Rory, but I guess she beat me to it. I was in the air, that is why I didn't get your calls or text." "Let's go see her. I can explain everything to you."
Logan and Ricky followed Dr. Boyett into Rory's room, Rory was sitting up reading a book. Lorelai was watching Netflix on her tablet. "Ace," Logan said, walking in front of Dr. Boyett. "Logan!" He raced to her and hugged her. "What's going on? Ricky said it was not labor." Rory moved over so Logan could sit down on the bed. "Let Dr. Boyett explains it to you," Rory told Logan.
Dr. Boyett explained to Logan that Rory's pain is not labor, but gallstones. "We did a sonogram, if they were diamonds, she would be rich. She has a sack full." "What are you going to do about it? It is not something that just happened is it?" Logan asked. "No, she has been having pain from her gallbladder for a while now. It was not bad enough for her to complain." Dr. Boyett explained. "I had back pain. Not bad, I just thought it was part of growing old." Rory said to Logan. "Well, what made it bad enough to be in the hospital, is it because she is pregnant?" Logan asked. "Possibly being pregnant sped up the pace. This is something we would have had to operate on sooner or later. Being pregnant just made it sooner. She has a gallstone stuck in a bile duct. I have talked to doctor Burke. He is a surgeon. He will be doing the surgery in the morning." Dr. Boyett said. "I met him. He stopped by. He is nice. Paris approved." Rory said with a smile. "It's okay to do the surgery while she is pregnant? Will it harm the baby?" Logan asked. Lorelai was grinning. "Protective Daddy much?" she said. Logan looked up at her. "Don't you think I would have already asked these questions?" Lorelai said. "I want to hear first hand from the Doc's mouth." He said to his mother-in-law. He was not in the mood to play her childish games. "The surgery will be done laparoscopically. He will make several small incisions, each less than 1 inch long. There will be less pain after surgery and recovery quicker." Dr. Boyett explained. We have given her a mild dose of pain meds. This should keep the pain low enough for you to sleep tonight. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight. Dr. Burke will be here to see you before they prep you for surgery. I will be in the operating room the whole time, just in case." Dr. Boyett moved closer to the door. Try to get some sleep. Dr. Burke prescribed a sleep medicine that will not harm you or the baby if you want it. Just ring the buzzer." Dr. Boyett stepped out of the room.
Logan took a deep breath. "Ricky, Lorelai, I'm here now. If you want to go home and get some sleep." Ricky looked at Rory. She nodded. "I will take a uber home and bring back Rory's car in the morning. Dr. Burke said that she possibly could go home tomorrow." "That's a good idea, but why don't you let Lorelai drop you off?" Logan asks. Lorelai stood up. "LOgan you just got off an airplane. I can stay with Rory. You go home and get some sleep and be back up here in the morning." "Thanks, Lorelai, but I'm not going anywhere." Lorelai looked at Logan, then looked at Rory. "Okay, Well kiddo, you ready to go?" Lorelai asked Ricky. He nodded his head. He walked over to Rory's bed and bent down to kiss her on the cheek. "Thank you Ricky for helping me today." "That's what I'm supposed to do. That is the way my dad raised me." "Well, I appreciate you being here. Thanks" Rory said. "I second it," Logan said. "Come on kiddo, before they adopt you." Lorelai laughed as she pushed Ricky out the door.
Logan stood up. "I'm going to use the bathroom, freshen up a little." Okay, there is a shower in there if you want." Rory said. "I don't have any more clothes. I sent what I had with me home in the Uber." Rory laughed. "I had Karson pack me a bag when I found out I would be staying overnight. I told her to put some basketball shorts, a hoodie, and some boxers in my bag. Mom stopped by and picked it up." "My, My, aren't you smart. Can't say money was wasted on your Yale education." He walked to the chair that held her bag and found his clothes. "I will call Ricky to bring me some jeans and a shirt in the morning." "Good idea," Rory said.
