Chapter 44 Wedding
Rory woke when she heard the door slam. She was at the Crap Shack. Today was her wedding day. She grabbed her phone to see the time. 9:45. Wow, how did she sleep so long? She unplugged her phone from the charger and laid back down on the bed. Logan left her a message. She opened the text. 'Good morning my sweet bride-to-be. I want you to start your day off knowing that I love you. I will see you at the altar.'
She closed her eyes. Today she becomes Mrs. Rory Huntzburger. 'Thank you, Lord, for giving me a second chance with Logan'. Another door slammed. Rory gets up, grabs a robe, and heads out of the bedroom. Lorelai is standing in the middle of the living room. Will and Chris are trying not to giggle. Failing at it. "Mom, Will, Chris, anyone wants to tell me why the doors are slamming so hard the house shook" "Rory, we.... I mean I was just .... You know what? The doors slammed. Now you are up. That's all the matters" Both boys couldn't hold it in any longer. They burst out laughing. "We scared Nana," Will said. "She jumped so high," Chris said. Rory just shook her head. It was too much to take in before coffee. She headed toward the kitchen.
Rory, Honor, Lane, Paris, and Stephanie were upstairs in Luke's office. This was the bride's room. Everyone was dressed except for Rory. "Rory, it is time." Lorelai came bursting in. Rory was sitting at the dressing table putting the finishing touches on her hair. "I'm ready to get dressed. Let me go pee one more time, then mom you can help me get dressed." Because this is her second marriage and because she wanted it to be low-key, Rory picked out a pink pants suit to wear. She made sure that Logan's tie matched her pants suit along with a baby blue dress shirt.
Everyone wanted them to get married at midnight. Rory knew this would not work for the twins or Cindy. They chose to get married at dusk. That way the twinkling lights would shine.
Lane gave her a bracelet that she and Rory made and wore in school for her something old. Honor gave her a tennis bracelet that was willed to her by her grandmother for something borrowed. Paris gave her a blue garter. "I have something old, borrowed, and blue. I guess the pants suit can be something new." "Wait," Honor said. "Logan told me to give you this before you walk down the aisle." Honor handed Rory a necklace box. "He already gave me my wedding present. See" she pointed to the tear-drop pink ice earrings. "He sent them over this morning." "All I know is I am supposed to give you this." Rory opens it up. "It's perfect, help me put it on." Logan gave her the matching necklace."
Rory moved from in front of the mirror to the window facing the gazebo. Logan, Finn, and the Preacher were headed to the gazebo in front of the crowd that is just taking their seats. "It's time," Rory said. "Help me down these stairs.
When they got down to dinner, the windows had been papered over. Robert, Collin, Seth, Josh, and Christopher were waiting at the door. Kirk made a path from Luke's door to the gazebo with a red-carpet Lane gave him from the antique store. Potted trees and ferns were lining the red carpet. Honor and Josh went first. Then Paris and Seth, Collin and Steph. Then Will, Chris with the rings and Cindy with the flower basket. Lane said, "Well I guess it's my turn." She turned around and hugged Rory. "I am so happy for you" and left out the front door. Robert was videoing the ceremony. He had been outside the diner filming as they exited. "Well, kiddo, it's time," Lorelai said. She was on one side and Christopher was on the other. They walked out of the diner and down the path that led to the gazebo. They stopped when they got to the chairs. Logan had his back turned to her. He wanted to turn around, he could hear everyone ewing and ahhing. He knew she was beautiful. The wedding music started and the three of them started down the aisle. When they were about halfway, Finn tapped Logan on the shoulder, "Time to turn around" Logan slowly turned around. He was looking at the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. They locked eyes. That is the last either one of the saw until the Preacher started the ceremony.
When the three of them got to the front row, Luke stood up with them. The Preacher asked, "who gives this woman to be married to this man?" Lorelai spoke up. "She gives herself, but with her family's blessing." Lorelai hugged Rory and then Logan. Christopher hugged Rory and then shook Logan's hand. Next Luke followed suit. Lorelai placed Rory's hand in Logan's hand "I love you both" before her, Luke and Christopher took a seat on the first row. Chris and Will were doing finger waves at them. Cindy was hiding behind Lane. The Preacher began the ceremony.
*Dearly beloved, we are gathered here on this beautiful day to witness the union of Lorelai Leigh Gilmore-Hayden to Logan Elias Huntzburger in holy matrimony. This is a day of great celebration and reverence, on which we come together before God to recognize and commemorate the sacred love and dedication shared between these two people. It is wonderful to have family and friends here to join us today. Logan and Rory would like to thank their guests for being here and would like you to know that each of you was invited here on this day because you have played an integral part in their intertwining lives. As the Bible reminds us in Corinthians, "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts always hopes, and always perseveres. Love never fails." In the time that they have spent together, they've built the sturdy foundation for a lifelong relationship. After a great deal of thoughtful consideration, they have decided to bind themselves to one another for the rest of their lives. May you all remember and cherish this sacred ceremony, for on this day, with love, we will forever bind and together.
Ms. Patty got up to sing 'Tom Odell – Grow Old with Me' with Kirk accompanying her on the piano. After the song, Logan and Rory moved to the unity sand. On that table, there were pictures of both sets of Grandparents. They both poured the sand into the vase to intertwine the sand as they intertwined their lives. They moved back in front of the Preacher. "Logan takes this ring and places it on Rory's finger as you say your vows."
"I, Logan commit myself to you, Rory, My Ace, as your husband to learn and grow with, to explore and adventure with, to respect you in everything as an equal partner, in the foreknowledge of joy and pain, strength and weariness, direction and doubt, for all the risings and settings of the sun."
"Now Rory, take this ring and place it on Logan's finger as you say your vows" the preacher continued.
"I have to catch my breath to believe this is real, that I am marrying my true love, my heart's desire, and my best friend. I, Lorelai Leigh promise to you, Logan Elias, to give all my love to you and receive so much love in return. Love is a give and take. As I promise always to be true. I promise myself to you. To you, I promise to cherish and share in everything. I promise to hold out love as a love everlasting. Not just for this moment, not for an hour, or day, or year – I will always love you."
"I know everyone is anxious for the groom to kiss the bride, but before we do that. Logan has something to say." Logan steps away asking Will and Chris to join him. Logan squats down to their level. "Will, Chris, I want you to know that I truly love your mom. We have become very good friends over the weeks and months, and we have learned to love each other. As you have so graciously shared your mom with me, so will I share the love I feel for her with you. Together, we will learn much more about each other. I also promise to be fair and to be honest. Additionally, I will be available for you as I am for your mom. And in due time, I will earn your love, respect, and true friendship. I will not attempt to replace your dad but cherish my life with all of you. On this day when I marry your mom, I marry you and I promise to love and support you as my own." Logan hugged both Will and Chris. He then stood up with both boys standing beside him, he looked at the Preacher. "Yes, you may kiss your bride" Logan stepped forward and kissed Rory with both boys standing beside them saying "Ewww" The crowd was laughing and clapping. There was not a dry eye in the crowd. When they finished the kiss, Logan grabbed Rory's hand with his right hand and Will with his left. Rory grabbed Chris's hand and the four of them walked back down the aisle.
Lorelai stood up as the bridesmaids and grooms' man was walking back up the aisle. "There will be a cocktail hour at the Dragonfly while we take some pictures. Everyone is invited. The reception will follow.
