Chapter 70 Gender Reveal
Things have been stressful since their return from Martha's Vineyard. Rory was involved with a writer her publishing company had asked her to help. Logan has been tied up in court off and on for almost a month. When he was not in court, he was at the office trying to catch up. Karson was taking some extra classes so she would not fall behind when the baby came. Rory was due at the end of August. Karson's plans include only taking online classes for summer and fall semesters. Ricky was also taking online classes. He was enjoying working for HPG. Ricky and Karson have started hanging out more. Rory noticed but kept it to herself.
She was working in their office Friday morning. She was just enjoying the quiet. This is the first time all week that she wasn't on a conference call or had someone in the office with her. She was used to hearing different sounds throughout the day in the house, but the footsteps she heard coming down the hall were not a normal daytime noise. She stood up and headed for the door, meeting Logan as she entered the hall. "Babe, what are you doing at home?" "Ace, you don't want me home?" Logan said with a smirk. Rory just shook her head. He liked to surprise her. Valentine's day was Monday. She is sure he has something planned for the weekend. He has been too quiet about one of his favorite holidays.
"I have a surprise for you," Logan said. "Yeah, what is it? Will I like it?" "I'm not telling you. Just grab your shoes and a sweater. We will have to hurry, or we will be late." "Late for what?" Rory asked with a smile. She knew that he would not tell her. He knew that she knew that he would not tell her and that she would continue to ask. "If you ask too many questions," Logan said as he pulled a blindfold out of his pocket. "Okay, I will not ask."
It was but a few minutes and they were pulling out of the garage. "It must be some surprise for you to take off work," Rory said as they left the property. "I'm the boss. I can leave when I want to." Logan said. Rory laughed. "Keep saying that long enough that we both will believe it." Logan chuckled, "You are right."
It didn't take them long to get to a large building. Logan parked in the underground parking and led Rory to the elevator. "You are not going to tell me where we are going?" Logan smiled but didn't say anything. When they were in the elevator, Logan pushed the button for the 23rd floor. When they exited the elevator there was an arrow pointing to the direction needed based on where they wanted to go. Rory noticed the only directions posted were medical. "Logan, are you sick?" "What? No, no Ace." They stopped in front of the door that said sonograms.
"I made an appointment to have a sonogram to see if the baby will cooperate." Logan took her hand and kissed her lips, "Happy Valentines' Day" Rory was smiling from ear to ear. This was the best present. They have a doctor's appointment next week, but this will be great. "Do you want to do a gender reveal?" She asked Logan. "Sure, we can do that," Logan said as she opened the door.
They only waited a few minutes before they went back. The sonographer was a young girl, probably just a little older than Karson. She instructed Rory to lay down and pull up her top and roll down her pants. As she was putting the cool gel on Rory's stomach, Logan asked "If you can tell today, could you just write it down and put it in a sealed envelope. We are going to have a gender reveal party this weekend." She nodded.
When they got in the car, Logan took the envelope from Rory and put it in the glove box. "We need to decide how we are going to do this," Logan said. Rory sat up straight. "Well, I have been thinking about this." "Oh, you have?" "Yes, listen we will give the envelope to Sookie. She can keep it a secret. We will have a party at the house Sunday afternoon. I will get Karson and Mom to help." "Okay, looks like you have everything figured out so make your phone calls and we will head to Stars Hollow.
They pulled up to the back of the DragonFly, where they knew Sookie would be in the kitchen. They told her what they wanted. You could hear Sookie squeal all through the inn. Of course, this brought Lorelai and Michel to the kitchen to see what was going on. "Rory, Logan, what are you doing here, not that you can't come to anything you like, but you usually call first," Lorelai said as she hugged Rory, then held her out away from her so she could see if she was showing. "She has a baby bump. You may not be able to see it, but I can." Logan smirked. "I see it, I see it", Sookie was yelling. Everyone was laughing at her. Rory told them their plans. Lorelai offered to host it at the inn, but Rory wanted to have it at their house.
Rory and Logan were upstairs in their bedroom, getting ready for the party. Logan had insisted on the party planner for HPG to help Rory. The house was decorated well. When you walk in the door there are pink and blue streamers you must walk through to get to the sitting room. They moved the sofas around the room so that the table for the cake would be in the middle of the room. It was short notice, so they only invited a few friends and family. Rory insisted that Logan extend an invitation to Shira. Honor had called, Shira told her to video it and send it to her. She was not going to be there. Logan thought that was a good idea. He had spent enough time and money on court. He wanted to enjoy today. If Shira were here, he would be nervous, waiting for her to say or do something to spoil the day.
Rory and Logan were busy minglings with their guest when Sookie came wheeling the cake out of the kitchen. This cake was huge. It had three tiers: blue, pink, and yellow. It had a doll baby bottle all around it. With a baby in a yellow diaper on top. But what did you expect from Sookie?
"Everyone, it's time, it's time," Lorelai yelled to get everyone's attention. "It's time to see what my next grandchild will be." Mitchum just rolled his eyes. It was his grandchild also. Logan helped Will and Chris up on the step stools so they could help cut the cake. As he was getting them situated, Rory looked at the whiteboard they had divided into Girl-Boy. "How about everyone splitting up? If you are hoping for a girl, move to my right and if you are hoping for a boy, move to my left." Rory suggested. Everyone started moving to their spot. "What if it doesn't matter?" Finn said. "I think everyone can pick aside. Finn, I know what you want, so get to it." Logan said.
Sookie handed Logan the cake knife and stepped back. He looked at Rory and she nodded. She picked up a plate to put the cake on so that she could show everyone. Logan sliced into the cake and pulled the slice out. Rory and Logan were grinning from eye to eye. "Tell us, someone tells us", came a shout from the back. Will was laughing at his nana. "Stop laughing Will. Look" Chris said. Rory held the plate up for everyone to see.
Cheers and congratulations were heard all around the room as Sookie took the cake away to slice and plate.
