Chapter 113 Mellow Much?
On the way home from the Huntzburger Manon Friday night, Rory tells Logan that she needed to talk with Lorelai before they leave for New York. Logan asked her when the last time they talked. Logan heard Rory mention Lorelai in a few days. "She went to Nantucket to check on the compound. She returned today," ''We have been texting back and forth, but have not talked." "Have her and Luke come to lunch tomorrow. We can sit down and explain to her what is going on. Maybe if we asked your dad to come, between the three of us, we could get through to her how important it is to keep the boys and you safe." "She just got back to town today. It would be better if I just showed up at the Inn and we talked. Can you keep the boys?" Logan nodded. "Yeah, I'll keep the boys and you do what you think is best."
Saturday morning, Roty was slow to get up. The further along she got, the more her joints hurt. When she finally made it downstairs, no one was around. She grabbed a cup of coffee and looked out the patio door. She could see Logan, Karson, Will, and Chris playing baseball. Ricky was showing the boys how to hold the bat.
After her cup of coffee, they still had not come in. She texted Logan that she was leaving, not to bother coming inside, just enjoy the game.
When she saw the Stars Hollow exit sign, she texted Lorelai and told her she was coming into town and would meet her at the Dragonfly. By the time she made it to Stars Hollow, she still had not heard from her Mom. She decided to drive through town instead of going straight to the Inn. Maybe she would see her at Lukes or the Crap Shack. That was a no-go. Hopefully, she will be at the Inn.
She pulled up to the back parking lot so she could go in through the kitchen and see Sookie, Maybe Sookie made cookies today. Em was craving chocolate chip cookies. She opened the kitchen door and she could smell the fresh-baked bread. Em would like that too. Sookie turned around when she entered the kitchen and almost dropped the hot pan of red sauce she was removing from the stove. Sookie yelled "Rory" that in turn scared Michel who was eating his grape nuts. "Hey Sookie, Hey Michel. Just dropped by to see Mom for a few. Was hoping Em could have some cookies and maybe some of that fresh bread?" "You, bet, coming right up. Oh, Rory, you look so good. How far along are you" Sookie asked. "I am 28 weeks," Rory said, rubbing her belly. "You are almost there," Sookie said and she handed her some chocolate chip cookies and a slice of homemade bread. "Lorelai is probably in her office. She was gone most of the week checking on Nantucket." Michel said.
Rory left the kitchen, eating her cookie, looking for her mom. She turned the corner and found her at the reservation desk talking with a guest. Rory stood back and waited for her to finish before she spoke. When Lorelai turned around to get the key, she saw her. "Hey, pregnant lady." "Hi, Mom." After Lorelai finished with the guest, of course, it took a little longer, because they asked her how she likes being a grandma.
Rory and Lorelai finally made it to her office. Lorelai got bottled water out of the mini-fridge in her office. "Where are my babies?" Lorelai asked. "They were playing baseball in the backyard when I left. I'll be lucky not to come home to a broken window" Rory laughed. Lorelai smiled at her, She knew her daughter better than anyone else. Rory was here to tell her something. After a minute of silence, Lorelai asked. "What brings you to Stars Hollow?" Rory smiled. "You could always tell when I had to tell you something that I know will disappoint you." "Go ahead. Tell me" Lorelai said. "Logan and I decide to spend the first part of the summer in New York. We are still going to Martha's Vineyard for the 4th. Are you and Luke and April's family still going to Nantucket? If so you can take the fairy to us for our big BBQ, or I can get Logan to come to get you on the Yacht.
"Sounds like you have your summer planned out," Lorelai said. "This is your family, you know what is best. Sometimes before school starts, Luke and I would like to take them camping." Rory smiled at her mom. "I'm sure that can be arranged." This was not the reaction she expected from her mom. Maybe the poisoning of Ricky made her realize she was wrong. Rory was thinking. "Do you leave as soon as school gets out in May?" Lorelai asked. "No, we have already pulled them out of school." Lorelai didn't say anything for a few minutes. This silence was killing Rory. She was expecting her mother to argue with her about this. "I see. And you think this is best?" "Mom under the circumstances, this is what is best." "Okay" Lorelai stood up. "When are you leaving?" "We plan to be there Wednesday," Rory said. Lorelai opened the office door and Rory got up. "I'm sure you are having all your medical records sent to someone in New York?" Rory nodded her head as she followed Lorelai out of the office. Lorelai stopped, turned around and hugged Rory. "Let me know when a good time is and Luke and I can visit, maybe you and I can go shopping," Lorelai said. "I'm sorry to rush you but I have been gone all week, there is a lot for me to catch up on," Lorelai said and she returned to her office and closed the door. Rory just stood there. She turned to Michel who was looking back and forth between Rory and the closed office door. "I guess I will go. See you late Michel" Rory said and she walked back through the dining, walked out the back door, got in her car, and left Stars Hollow.
