Chapter 4-Central Park
Logan entered the coffee shop, smiling and looking for Rory. He had this smile on his face since he talked with Rory last night. Even his secretary noticed. He ordered his coffee at the counter to go and another one for Rory to go. He sat down at the table with Rory, kissing her on her cheek. Why was he so nervous? This was just Rory. When the waitress delivered the coffees, he told Rory "Come on, Let's go for a walk in Central Park". Rory gathered her things and followed Logan.
Frank was parked just outside by the curve. He got out to open the door and Logan told him they would be walking, but he would like to put Rory's purse and bags in the car. Rory couldn't believe it. "Frank, how are you? How is the family, bet your boys are grown and married by now? It's been a long time." Rory said as she hugged Frank. "Yes ma'am. Everyone is great, I have 2 grandchildren now. My oldest is working in London. It is good to see you again Ms. Rory."
After the greeting and the details of both lives for the last twelve years, Logan grabbed a Picnic basket from the back seat. He and Rory walked to Central Park. After finding a perfect spot on a hill, they sit down with the picnic basket and blanket to listen to the string quartet playing. They sat, talked, laughed, and ate. They were in their own little world; it was like no time at all had passed. After finishing the meal, they walked hand in hand to the carousel. Rory and Logan rode the carousel, giggling and laughing like they were both carefree. Both knew this was not the case. There was still a lot to discuss, serious stuff, but they are putting it off. Just enjoying each other being in the moment. They both knew that they had been given a second chance. Again, still, a lot to discuss, but smiling all the way.
As the sun began to set, Rory told Logan that she must be leaving. She still had to pick up the boys, before heading home. Logan agreed. He was worried about her being on the road after dark. They walked back to Frank and he drove them to Rory's SUV. Logan got out with Rory. After unlocking the SUV and putting her belongings away, Logan hugged her but didn't want to let go. Rory told him that she would call him when she got home. He kissed her lips and helped her in the SUV. He watched as she drove away. When he got back in the car, Frank told Logan it was good seeing Ms. Rory and he liked the smile she put on his face. Logan agreed. He likes that smile too.
After Rory got on the freeway, she was thinking about how much fun she had today. She was just smiling and singing along with the radio when all of the sudden it hit her. She and Logan never talked. They never defined their relationship. Are they in a relationship? Are they exclusive? She decided to call him. She could have this relationship talk on the phone. If he does not feel the same way or does not want a relationship, she will not have to look him in the eye. Yes, that is what she will do. She tells Siri to call Logan Huntzburger. The phone rings and Logan answers.
"Ace, don't tell me you have made home. You haven't been gone long enough. You shouldn't have even made it to the Stars Hollow exit."
She laughed, "no, just outside of the city. I want to talk to you. I should have had this talk face to face, but I was scared of bursting the bubble we were in."
"Ace? What going on"?
"Logan, what are we doing? Before you say it. I know I am driving but I am hands-free. Logan, I am 36 years old, I was married to Billy for a little over 10 years. For most of that marriage I was unhappy. I have 4-year-old twin boys that I adore. I am too old to play games. I want a relationship with you. I want us to build on what we had. I know that we have both changed a lot in the last twelve years, but if today showed me anything, it is that I am still in love with you. For years I thought I was just in love with a fantasy. I know that we cannot pick up where we left off, but I love you. When I left today, my heart was so full, until I realized that I did not know where we stood. I know that maybe you do not feel that way, maybe today was just a look back and now you can move on. If that is the case, just tell me. I know this is all too soon, I know that I have no right to ask you to answer me now. If you need time to think that is okay. Just please tell me something. I know that taking on a woman with two kids and an ex-husband is a lot to take in. I know that your parents are not going to be happy, but we are grown, adults. None of that matters." She stops to take a breath and Logon injects into the conversation.
Ace, Ace, wooh, slow down. It has been a long time since I heard a Gilmore rant. You have got to give me time to catch up. Rory, I Lo---" Logan didn't get a chance to say anything else before Rory yelled his name and he heard a crash. The phone went dead..........
