Chapter 111 Sunday part II
Ricky made it home from the hospital. Everyone was fussing over him. Trying to make sure he was alright. After a little while, Rory was sitting on the sofa in the pool house. Karson was sitting with her. Cynthia, Lana, Jessi, Chris, Will, and Gigi were in his room trying to get him settled. Gigi was moving his gaming system into his bedroom. Logan and Christopher had moved the bigger TV from the living room to his bedroom. Will and Chris were trying to help. They wanted Ricky to have his gaming system and his TV. Their logic is that he can play his game while he watches cartoons. Upon Cynthia's request, Karson gave her his care instruction from the hospital. She sent Logan to pick up some supplies at the pharmacy. Mitchum and Christopher were in Logan's office. Dillon stopped by for a few minutes. He left shortly after he got there, he received an urgent phone call.
Rory and Karson talked. Rory told Karson that it was okay for her to stay with Ricky for a couple of nights. She was his nurse, but as soon as he gets better, back to her apartment she goes. Karson thanked her. Rory stood up. "Hey, Gigi, how much more do you have to do to get the system set up?" She asked, "Almost there." She replied. "Chris, Will, be careful, Tell Ricky bye. It's time to go back home." Rory said. "Karson, let me know if you need anything. I will be back over later to check on you. Evelyn has a plate fixed for you and some bland soup for Ricky"
Rory and the boys entered the house from the French doors. The boys went to play in the playroom. They wanted to play in the playroom in the basement, but Rory didn't know the last time Logan checked the door down there. She felt better with them playing upstairs.
Rory was taking a nap on the sofa when Logan returned from the poolhouse. He dropped off the supplies and checked on Ricky. Lana was flipping through the TV channels, and Cynthia was in the kitchen talking with Evelyn. Logan stopped at Rory long enough to put a throw over her. "Where are the boys," He asked Lana in a whisper, not wanting to wake Rory. "I'm not sure. I haven't heard them since I told them to be quiet, Rory was asleep." Logan started toward the basement when she saw Cynthia and Evelyn coming out of the kitchen. Evelyn was toting a big bowl of soup and Cynthia had crackers and juice. They were on their way to the pool house to try to get Ricky to ear. "Hey, Do you know where the boys are?" Cynthia smiled. "I checked on them about 10 minutes ago. One is in the bed asleep and the other is in the playroom on the futon asleep." "Thanks," Logan said as he started toward the office.
Mitchum and Christopher were on the phone when Logan walked in. Christopher looked up. "Ryan, Dillon, and Hanna are on the way. They want to give you a heads up." Christopher said. Mitchum hung up the phone. "Son, at this point, none of the evidence points to Shari. I know that is a relief. That is all Ryan could tell me. I have notified the gate to let them in." "This has to end soon," Logan said. "I don't like the idea of being a prisoner in my own home. It is two weeks until Honor and Lorelai throw the baby shower for Rory, and four weeks until your wedding" Logan said looking at Christopher. Until this is figured out, the food can not be catered." Logan said. They all agreed. Explaining to the women would be another thing.
About thirty minutes later, Dillon, Ryan, and Hanna arrived. Logan went to check on Rory while Christopher answered the door. Rory was still asleep. Lana was watching TV and playing on the IPad. Evelyn and Cynthia were on the patio watching the boys play with dump trucks and bulldozers. Jessi was coloring at the table her mom was sitting at.
Logan followed them back to the office. After everyone got settled. Dillon started. "The FBI lab in New Haven tested the cotton candy and pretzel. It was determined the poison used on both the cotton candy and pretzel. It tested to be Arsine. After notifying us and the hospital, the sample was sent to Quantico. They were able to track it back to a shipyard in Jacksonville." "So Melissa?" Logan asked. Agent Horn spoke up. "That is the direction we are taking the investigation. Although, because we have no facts, we are leaving a team to continue to investigate. Hoping they can turn up a lead points to Melissa"
"What is arsine and what is it used for?" Christopher asked. Ryan spoke up. Arsine is a colorless, flammable, non-irritating toxic gas with a mild garlic smile. Arshine is formed when arsenic comes in contact with an acid. Arsine is used in metal refineries." "Shipyards"? Mitchum asked. "Some shipyards have a small refinery set up in the shop. It helps them shape smaller metals." Ryan said. "When I worked for Homeland Security, my specialty was Chemical Warfare. I usually take refresher classes every two years. Chemists are coming up with different poisons and they are being used by terrorists. I don't want some new combination of chemicals to slip by me because I was not up to date."
"What do we need to do?" Logan asked. "Right now, I am using my contacts with Homeland Security. I am allowed to help investigate as long as I have a handler. I'm meeting with him later today. I will let you know what I find out." Ryan said. Logan nodded his head. "I will call my security team and make sure your shift is covered," Logan said. "Like Ryan, I am going to help the FBI investigate. Agent Horn will be my handler and she will also be the liaison between the FBI and Homeland." Dillon said. "Rory's step-sister and her husband work for the CDC in Atlanta. They are both have high-security levels. I will get you her contact information. She might be able to help" Logan said as he was looking up April's contact information on his phone.
"Mr. Huntzburger, right now you are doing the right thing. Keep security on your family. No, take out food. Have the boys take their lunches, not swapping. Whoever this is, knew about the festival." Agent Horn said. "We don't know how much more they know about you and this family....With your permission, I would like to have your home swept for bugs." "Yes, I'm sure that is fine," Logan said. This was a nightmare.
