Chapter 46 Flying to Cliffside

The next morning, Logan and Rory were laying in the bed in their room at the Dragonfly. They were supposed to be downstairs for brunch with the family before leaving for California then Hawaii. Robert videoed the wedding and they were taking it with them to show Shira on the way to California if she wants to see it. Rory was trying to get up, but Logan would not let go of her. She was giggling, "Husband, if you do not let me go so I can get a shower, we will be late for brunch. You know that Lorelai, your mother-in-law will come up here looking for us" Logan laughed and let go. "Race you to the shower" Logan yelled as he took off his clothes.

Will and Chris were begging Lorelai to let them go get their mother. "But Nana, she maybe forgot she was eating with us," Chris said. "Nana, Mama, and Logan are going to be gone for a long long long time. I want to see them so I can tell them bye" Will said. "And tell them not to forget to buy us a present" Chris chimed in.

Logan and Rory were coming down the stairs when they heard part of the conversation. "Boys, Good morning," Rory said as she kissed them on the head. "I hear you have a request for a present?" Will put his head down but Chris said "yes ma'am. We have never been to Hawaii. Did you know that you can't get there in a car? It is an island and there is no bridge" Logan laughed. He pulled up Hawaii on his phone and showed it to them.

After brunch and a lot of questions from the boys on what Rory and Logan would be doing on the island. They couldn't understand why they could not go and what they would be doing without them. Lorelai thought that was funny. When their town car arrived, there were lots of hugs and kisses and a promise to call. Rory and Logan left to go to the airport. Logan texted Honor that they were leaving the Dragonfly. She was to meet them at the private tarmac with Shira.

When they pulled up, Honor was not there yet. Jeffery the pilot loaded their luggage in the plane. Rory and Logan were already on the plane, drinking mimosa when Honor and Shira boarded. Logan quickly took both glasses and set them out of the way. Honor and Shira both had on tracksuits and looked comfortable. Rory had also dressed for comfort. She had one of Logan's shirts with leggings. Logan stood up when Honor and Shira entered to tell Jeffrey they were ready to go. When he returned, he told everyone to buckle up and get ready for takeoff.

As soon as Jeffery let them know that they could unbuckle, Shira got up and headed to the drink cabinet. Honor and Rory looked at Logan. He got up. "Mom, I don't think it is a good idea." "I just want a bloody Mary. That's all." Shira said. Logan took her hand and led her back to her seat. As she was sitting down, she felt the ring on his finger. She grabbed his hand and looked at it. "When did you get married?" Rory looked at Logan then Honor. Did they not tell Shira? "Mom, I told you about the wedding. You and I talked about it last week" Honor said. "Yes, yes, I remember. I just thought that was next week" Shira said, trying to hide the fact that she forgot. "Shira, we brought the wedding video if you would like to see it," Rory asked. "Yes, I would like to see it," Shira said with a smile. Fake smile and all.

Logan started the video and then grabbed a blanket and pillow from overhead. He moved the armrest between him and Rory. She moved over closer to him as he put the blanket on them and leaned back on the seat. "You are not going to watch with us?" Shira asked. "No, we are going to take a short nap," Logan said. "Didn't get a lot of sleep last night baby brother?" Honor laughed. "No, not a lot," Logan said with a straight face.

Honor and Shira watched the wedding. Shira was critical of just about everything. "Honor I did not see Samuel or Joshua in the wedding, but I did see her boys. And who was that little girl? That jet black hair. She needed a blonde so that she would contrast with the boys. I bet Emily and France are rolling over in their graves." "Mother, sssh. The wedding was lovely. It fit Rory and Logan to a tee. And that beautiful little girl is Cindy. Her mother was the matron of honor." "She could have at least put Joshua in the wedding. He could have been a junior groom's man." Rory sat up and stretched. She stood to go to the bathroom. "We discussed Joshua being a junior groom's man but decided against it because we did not have a place for Samuel. Shira, I am sorry you are disappointed in our wedding, but I am sure this is not the first time, nor will it be the last time I do something that you do not approve of." Rory said as she entered the bathroom.

Logan, who had sat up when Rory did, looked at his mother and shook his head. He stood up and went to speak with Jeffery. When he returned Rory was reading a book with her iPhone earbuds in her ear. He sat down next to her, and she moved to get comfortable against him. "Jeffery said we have two more hours as long as there is not a lot of traffic trying to land. We will drop you off at the rental house and you can go freshen up while Honor and I get Shira settled. Pick out a pretty dress to take with your overnight bag and I will take you and Honor out for a wonderful meal." Rory smiled. Her husband was one of a kind. How did she get so lucky?

Honor and Shira both were reading. Shira asked Honor, "You are going to leave me, you are not going to stay with me?" "Mother we talked about this. I will stay in Malibu for a few days. I will come to visit as often as they will allow. Then I will fly back to Harford." "And Logan? He will stay too?" Honor looked at her mother. The withdrawal had her mind messed up. "No, Logan and Rory are going to Hawaii for their honeymoon. They will be back in a week, and I am sure Logan will come to see you if they allow it." Shira answered almost in a whisper. "She won't let him see me. Why would I see? She has all the control now" Honor just looked at her and went back to reading. She couldn't figure out if Shira was finally realizing that what she said or did had no effect on Logan, or she just hated Rory that much.

When they landed, their limo was waiting. Jeffery helped the driver load Honor and Shira's luggage. Rory was carrying her overnight bag. She has Logan's toiletries in her bag also. They dropped Rory off at the Rental house that Honor would stay in until she returned to Hartford. Logan and Honor rented the House for 6 months with options. That way they will have somewhere to stay when visiting Shira. It will also make a wonderful vacation place in June or July. Honor and Logan talked about the whole family staying for a week this summer instead of Martha's Vineyard.

When they arrived at the Cliffside Rehab Center, they were met by several staff members. They were escorted to Shira's room. It was a private room overlooking the ocean. Taylor, the on-call manager told them to go ahead and get her unpacked. "I will be back in about ten minutes, and we can all talk, then I will give you a tour of our facilities."

Honor unpacked Shira while Logan explored the room and en suite. "Mom, this is a nice place. You have our room and en suite. And look at this view." Logan told her. "You have a big screen TV and a DVD player. Honor you will have to go buy her some movies. When Rory and I get back to Hartford we can send plenty. Rory has a huge collection." Shira just nodded "Mother, I am putting your underwear in this drawer. Mom, look so you will know where everything is. After we talk with Taylor and get a tour, I will get a list of things that you need that you did not bring. I will go shopping and bring them back." Shira again just nodded.

Taylor returned with paperwork for them to sign. She explained to the three that Shira will be able to take advantage of the spa, pool, and tennis courts. "She will have access to the dining hall, or she can have her lunch and/or breakfast sent to her room. Dinner will be served in the dining hall at 6:30. She will be given a menu of choices for the evening meal. She will need to fill out the menu card and make sure it gets returned to the dining hall. For the first week, Shira, you will be assigned a buddy. Any time you leave your room your buddy will be with you. Your schedule is also in this binder. It is very important that you keep up with this binder. It will tell you what time and where your therapy session will take place. These sessions are mandatory. If you miss more than one in weeks' time without a good excuse, you will be kicked out. I know this is a lot to take in. That is why you will have a buddy with you to help you get used to this. The visitation schedule, as well as the calling or video chatting schedule, is also in here. Now, Shira do you have any questions before we take the tour?" Shira just shook her head. "Logan, Honor do you have any questions?" "No, I will probably have a few after I read over this material. Will it be okay to call you?" Logan replied. "Yes, there is a card in the material with my cell phone number on it. I have been assigned to Shira. Each manager has 6 patients that they are responsible for. I will be checking on her all the time. You can call me anytime you have a question or think there is a problem." Taylor was directing the answer to Logan. Honor spoke up. "My baby brother will be on his honeymoon for the next week. I will be staying in town." Honor said as she handed Taylor her card with her cell number on it. "You will need to call me if there is a problem." Taylor took the card and put it in Shira's file.

After they were given the tour, Logan and Honor left. Honor had been advised not to come back until tomorrow. This will give Shira a little time to get used to everything.
