Chapter 61 Rory and Lorelai
Ricky got settled. He was still getting used to the routine. Dr. Whaley flew to Malibu with Honor on Tuesday. The meeting was set up for Wednesday. After evaluating Shira, they returned to Hartford to start the paperwork to have her transferred. Taylor and Shira's doctors had her on treatment for her addiction that Dr. Whaley approved of. After the meeting, Dr. Whaley and Honor called Logan. Explained what they saw and what he thought. Logan arranged to meet with Dr. Whaley Friday at the Huntzburger Manor. He also arranged for his private investigator Dillon to meet with them also.
Logan had also talked with Luke. Logan and Rory decided to go to Stars Hollow to meet with Luke and Lorelai. Logan could tell that the situation with her mom was weighing heavy on her. Rory has enough stress as it is. Next week she starts back to work. Her goal is to finish book seven before the baby is born, then do the book tour on the east coast spread out over several months.
When Logan got home, Rory was ready to go. She had already arranged for Karson to take the boys to eat. Logan headed upstairs to get changed. 15 minutes later they were on their way. Logan held Rory's hand. They were in her Land Rover. When it was just the two of them, they usually drove his Tesla. Because being rich seemed to be Lorelai's problem with Rory, they decided to take her Land Rover. "Ace, don't be nervous. This is your mom we are talking about. She will love you whether she agrees with you or not." "It should not bother me. I am a grown woman, married with 2 and a half kids and 2 young adults living in my house. After Billy and I divorce, I saw a therapist. She told me that disappointing people was just part of life. She told me not to blame myself if other people had me on a pedestal. For the most part, I get that. But she is my mother." "I know Ace. It will be alright. I promise.
When they arrived, Luke's truck and Lorelai's jeep were parked in their usual spots. Logan pulled in behind Lorelai's jeep. Logan was helping Rory out of the car when she asked, "Does she know we are coming?" Lorelai stepped out on the porch. "I would guess so," Logan said. "Where are my babies?" Lorelai asked. "Your big baby is right here, and your youngest grandchild is here too," Rory said with a smile that didn't reach all the way to her eyes, but she was trying. "I want a baby to hold, you are too old for me to hold and too fat," Lorelai said with a laugh. "Fat, my baby bump is not showing at all. Don't call me fat or I will call you old grandma." Rory said as she stepped up on the porch and hugged Lorelai. "I am so sorry baby; I don't know what got over me. Please forgive me and let's just forget it even happened." Lorelai whispered to Rory.
Rory stepped back. "Mom, I love you. Thank you for apologizing. I have missed you, but we need to come to an understanding. I don't want this to keep happening." "Come on in, I just put supper on the table. We will eat now and talk later. Logan tells me your iron was a little low at your doctor's visit." Luke said to Rory. "I have fixed several dishes high in iron. Liver would have been the best, but I know better than to try to get you to eat that." Rory hugged Luke. "You got that right. Thanks, you always know how to feed me."
They all piled in the house. Lorelai was the last to come in. She was sad. How did she forget that Rory had a doctor's appointment? Because I am being such a witch, Rory didn't call to tell me. Get your act together Lorelai.
Rory and Logan were already seated at the table when Lorelai entered the room. "Logan, can I get you a beer?" Lorelai asked. "Water will be fine," Logan said. "Rory, how about you?" "Sure, I'll have a beer and some apple juice." "One apple juice coming right up," Luke said. They ate and talked in between bites. Lorelai told about Michel and Sookie fighting over the festival baskets. Sookie got mad so she did not bake Michel any of the low-fat cookies that he loves, which in return made Michel mad but Lorelai stopped him before he stole all Sookie's knives. Everyone was laughing and enjoying themselves. Luke stood up and started clearing the table. Logan stood up "Let me help you, Luke," he said grabbing the plates off the table. "Girls, if you go into the living room, we will be along shortly with coffee and pie," Luke said. Rory smiled from ear to ear until Logan said. "No coffee for Ace. You had her cup this morning."
Lorelai and Rory were talking about how Logan wouldn't let her have more than one cup a day. When the guys entered the room with the pie and drinks. They chatted some more until Luke said. "I have enjoyed having you over tonight. You just don't know how it feels to hear you laugh. I really hate to bring this up, but I want both of you to get this, whatever it is out in the open so we can enjoy each other's company."
"Who wants to start?" Luke asked. Neither one of them responded. "Ace, why don't you start? Tell Lorelai how it makes you feel when she puts you up on a pedestal only to have you fail." Rory made a face at Logan. "Mom, I hate to disappoint you. You are my best friend. You put me on a pedestal and think I do no wrong. You want to blame everyone else for the things that are my fault." "Rory, I'm sorry. You have always been such an easy person. You get along with everyone. Growing up, most of the time you were an adult. You don't think I knew that, but I did."
"Why are you upset that Logan and I have help? I am not a spring chicken anymore. You thought it was a great idea to hire Karson. You know I had help when I lived in Jacksonville. So why is it all of a sudden bad for me to have help now? I have a baby on the way. When the baby is born, the boys will be 5. Karson will be at school more. The boys will have playdates. I want to be able to spend time with them. I don't want them to think this baby is replacing them. With Karson and the nanny, I will be able to spend time with the twins. Together and separate. You claim you raised me without any help. Mia watched me in my playpen when I was little. Sookie helped too. I even remember Michel helping watch me. Then when we moved into the house, I had Babette, Ms. Patty, and Luke. Mom, you had more help than you realized. I was a good child. You have already said that. I have two boys. Boys are harder to raise than girls. I need help too." Rory took a deep breath and looked up at Lorelai. She had tears running down her cheeks. "Oh, Rory, I am so sorry, I have been such a bad mom. Please forgive me." Lorelai said as she hugged Rory. Logan and Luke both were looking up at the ceiling. Try to stop the tears from falling.
"Rory, I know you have help at home, but anytime you need me to help, just let me know," Luke said.
