Chapter 124 Answer the Phone, Please

Christopher was standing on the curve at the county club. He was trying to stop Logan from leaving. He wanted to talk to Rory. He reached for his phone only to realize he left it in his jacket pocket. He went back into the county club to grab his phone. He was calling Rory when Lana walked up. "You don't look like a man that just got married." She purred. "I was trying to stop Logan and Rory. I need to talk with her." "Chris, she is a grown woman, You can call her in the morning." She said as she was running her hand over his chest. Chris stopped her. "Lana, I need to talk with Rory." He said, grabbing her hands. "Fine, I'll be on the dance floor," She said as she turned to walk to the dance floor.

Christopher walked out of the county club with his phone. He tried calling Rory again. After the 3rd time, Christopher called Logan. He didn't answer. Christopher was worried. He saw Rory coming out of the bathroom. He could tell by the look on her face something happened while she was in there. Two of Lana's bridesmaids came out right after Rory did. They were laughing and giggling. They tried to straighten up when they saw him, but it didn't last long before they were laughing and giggling again. He tried one more time. She still didn't answer. He was debating going to their house, but this is his wedding day. About that time, his phone vibrated in his hand. It was a text from Logan not sure what happened. She does not want to talk right now. She is okay, don't worry. Have fun and we will talk later.' When he saw the message, he just felt hurt. But this is something he is used to. He has hurt Rory in the past, by not being there for her. Now she didn't want him to be there for her now. Well, I guess that is that.

Christopher was looking for Lana. He spotted her on the dance floor with one of his friends. He walked over and tapped on Jason's shoulder. "May I cut in? I would like to dance with my beautiful wife" Jason bowed out and Christopher took over. They danced in silence for a few minutes. "Did you get in touch with Rory?" Lana asked. "No, Logan texted, told me she didn't want to talk. You are right, she is grown and has a husband to worry about her." After a few dances, Lana asked Christopher to the bar to get them drinks. On his way back to Lana, Christopher saw Mitchum and Cynthia talking with Lana and a group of her friends. His first thought is 'I hope those girls don't embarrass me' This is not the way to start a marriage. Disliking her close friends. When he reached the group Mitchum was the first to say "Congratulations," Mitchum said. "It was a beautiful wedding," Cynthia said. "I especially like the cute ring bearers." Christopher nodded. "Yes, they take after their Grampa" everyone was laughing. Mitchum noticed the smile on Cynthia's face did not match her eyes. He put his arm around her and whispered in her ear. "What's wrong?" She smiled at him and squeezed his hand. "Lana, where is Christopher taking you on your honeymoon?" Lana smiled at her, then looked at Christopher. We are taking a cruise to the Bahamas. We will stay there for a week, then take a week-long cruise to Key West." She said with a smile. "Then we will decide whether we want to come back or not." Everyone laughed again. "Well, congratulations and best wishes" Cynthia said "I think it is about time for us to leave the party.

As Cynthia and Mitchum were waiting on the car to be brought around Mitchum asked her. "What was going on back there?" Cynthia looked around to see who was in close earshot. She shook her head. When they were both in the car and buckled up, Mitchum drove to the end of the driveway at the county club. He stopped the car and looked at Cynthia. She had been texting Rory but was not getting an answer. "While you were getting our drinks earlier, I heard a piece of a conversation. Sometimes my imagination gets the best of me. If I don't hear all of it, my mind fills in the blank. From what I overheard, the girls were talking about Logan and Christopher. It seems some of those girls went to school with Honor and they remember Logan." "Logan was quite the playboy in college. That is until he met Rory. After their botched proposal, Logan seems to quit his playboy ways. I mean I am sure he was not celibate. He had a couple of long-term relationships. One lasting a year, the other 6 months. Rory is well aware of this." Mitchum said. "I'm sure she is, but one of the girls started to speculate that the twins belong to Logan. From there it was how inappropriate it was to bring children this small to a wedding reception. At this point, I figured it was best to walk away, but as I was leaving, I heard them making fun of Rory. How she married the first time for money, but that was not enough, now she was married to Logan, she had to get pregnant or she wouldn't be able to keep him."

Mitchum had been a part of society all his life. He remembers leaving parties and Shira going on and on about some gossip she heard. He never really paid attention to any of it. He had his sources and if there was something he needed to know, they would inform him. He was lost in thought until something Cynthia said caught his attention. "What did you say about the bathroom?" he asked. "I said, they were laughing at Rory because she came out of the bathroom crying. The redheaded girl said it was because she found out that Logan was cheating on her." Mitchum put the car in gear. "Has Rory responded to any of your texts?" "No." "Text Logan and make sure she is okay, Tell him you overheard some giggling girls talk about Rory crying in the bathroom because she found out he is cheating" Cynthia nodded her head.
