Chapter 59 Doctors Who Can You Trust

Rory was laying in bed Monday morning. After all the excitement Sunday, she took half a Benadryl so that she would be able to sleep. Logan had been so good to her after the ordeal yesterday. After she calmed down, Rory and Logan talked. Logan took Rory to a pond on the Huntzburger estate. They sat in the car, talking and looking out over the pond. The wind was slightly blowing. You could see the ripples in the water. While they were at the pond, Rory called Luke. She told him what Lorelai did. She wasn't telling him to be a tattletale, but so he could help set up a meeting so they could all sit down and talk, maybe resolve the problem.

She looked at the clock on the bedside table. 8:30. Her appointment is at 10:00. Logan had gotten up earlier to meet the crew to start on the pool house. She talked to Ricky last night and everything is on track for them to arrive Monday night.

Rory grabbed a robe and headed downstairs. She was hungry. When she got to the bottom of the stairs, she realized that she didn't hear the boys. She decided to check in Logan's office. The door was open. Logan was pacing around the room with the phone glued to his ear. He smiled when he saw her. He stepped up to kiss her and tell her good morning. "I'm on the phone with Shira's doctors. I'm just listening." Rory kissed him back. "Where are the boys?' "Karson took them to play with the McCrae twins. They called earlier and I said it was okay. I didn't overstep, did I?" Rory shook her head no. Rory reminded Logan of the doctor's appointment at 10:00 before she redirected herself back toward the kitchen to get breakfast.

After breakfast, before Rory went upstairs to get ready for her appointment, she stopped by the office again. This time the door was closed. She knocked lightly on the door and then opened it. This time Logan was sitting at his desk, still on the phone. Rory kissed him, pointed at her wrist, and left to get dressed.

At 9:30 Rory returned to the office looking for Logan. He was still on the phone. This time he was doing more than listening. "I will fly you to Malibu. I want this taken care of." Logan said. He smiled at Rory and put his finger up letting her know he would be off the phone in a minute.

On the way to the doctor's office, Logan and Rory discussed his phone call. "I heard you talking about flying someone to Malibu." "I am going to fly Dr. Whaley to Malibu. He wants to meet with Shira. He runs a residential home for Alzheimer's and dementia patients. Taylor and the doctors that Shira is seeing in Malibu do not think that is a good idea. Dr. Whaley wants to talk with her and see how far advanced she is. He believes she should be settling down from her withdrawals. If she truly has Alzheimer her body will be craving something but her mind will not know what it is." Logan explained. "Taylor and the doctors in Malibu don't believe that?" Rory asked. "Yeah, when you have the money we have, people, doctors included, want to get as much out of you as they can. I don't want her stuck in Malibu when she will fare just as good in Hartford."

They parked at the Dynasty Marker. Rory was seeing one of Paris' doctors. When they entered the waiting room, Rory went to register at the desk. Paris was talking with one of the nurses when she saw Rory. "Hey, I saw your name on Dr. Boyett's appointment book. He shouldn't be too much longer. I have a few minutes if you would like to come to my office so we can talk." Paris said. "Logan is with me." "Tell him to come too. I guess I have to get used to him again." Paris said as she moved to open the door for Rory and Logan to come through.

They had been in Paris' office for a few minutes when Dr. Boyett's nurse knocked on the door. She escorted them out of Paris' office and to the lab. "Hey, my name is Ashley. I am Dr. Boyett's nurse. I am going to weigh you and draw blood at the beginning of every visit. I will also need a urine sample." She said as Rory stepped up on the scales. After the lab, she escorted them to the exam room. "There is a robe behind that curtain for you to change into. Dr. Boyett should not be too much longer. Did you bring the forms I emailed you? Dr. Boyett will want to look over the family history part of the forms before the exams you." Logan spoke up. "We emailed them back to you after we filled them out." "Oh, let me check my email. I didn't see them earlier." Ashley said as she sat down at the laptop in the room. "Here they are. Sorry about that. I will get them printed and Dr. Boyett will have a copy."

Ashley left the room and Rory went behind the curtain to change. She was only seated for a few minutes when Dr. Boyett knocked on the door. Logan jumped. He had been looking at the posters on the wall. He was trying to figure out how a baby was going to fit through there.

"You can come in," Rory said. Dr. Boyett entered the exam room. "Mr. and Mrs. Huntzburger, I'm Dr. Boyett. Dr. Geller has told me all about you." Logan reached over and shook his hand. "Call us Logan and Rory," Logan said. "And Paris has told us all about you as well. She cited all your credentials." Rory said with a smile. Dr. Boyett had a hardy laugh. "I bet she did," he said.

"Looking over the information I have, I am guessing you are between 10 and 12 weeks. Does that go along with your thinking?" Rory nodded her head. "I see that you saw a doctor while on your honeymoon in Hawaii. She sent her test reports and diagnosis summary also." He said as he was flipping through her chart. "I also see where you visited Dr. Geller to receive fluids." He continued to review the chart and summary of the doctor Rory visited. "Okay, let's check you out and see how close we are to how far along you are."

After the exam, Dr. Boyett told her to get dressed and meet him in his office. When Logan and Rory entered, Dr. Boyett was sitting at his desk. "Have a seat. I have reviewed your blood work. Everything is fine with the exception of your iron. It is not low enough for you to be on iron tablets yet. You just need to eat more foods high in iron. Spinach, oatmeal, dark chocolate. There is a list in this pamphlet along with a list of foods to avoid. I see that this is not your first pregnancy. You have twin boys; Dr. Geller tells me. They are still young enough that you should remember most of what is in the pamphlet but look over it. Researchers are developing changes in just about everything we do. I make it a point to stay up to date on child-raising and birthing." Dr. Boyett said. "Doctor, when can we find out what gender?" Logan asked. Rory looked at him. "We will schedule a sonogram for the next visit. The information on how to prepare for your sonogram is also in this pamphlet. If this little one is cooperating, we should be able to tell. Do you have any more questions for me today?" Rory and Logan both shook their heads. "I always tell my patients and their partners to write down any questions you have, so at the next visit we can answer them." Dr. Boyett said as he stood up. "Rory, Logan is was nice meeting you." He said as he shook their hand.

After stopping at the desk to make another appointment in a month, Rory and Logan left to go get lunch. As the valet was opening the door for Rory, Logan's phone rang. He got out of the car and handed the keys and some money to the valet. "Hello?" Logan said as he answered the phone while taking Rory's hand. Before they entered the building, Logan told the caller to hold on for a minute.
"Ace, I have to take this. It is about Shira." "Is it okay if I go ahead and have a seat?" "That would be great, order me the special. I won't belong."

As Rory walked away, Logan said into the phone. "I'm back. Tell me what you have found." Logan listened to the caller. After a few minutes, Logan told the caller thank you, he will be in touch and hung up. When he got to the table, Rory had already ordered an appetizer. Logan kissed her cheek before grabbing a fried pickle and sat down. "I'm sorry Ace, but you will never believe what I have found out. I could just kick myself. I did not do enough research on Cliffside. I guess I was preoccupied. I think they are running a scam on us." Rory took a sip of her coke. "What are you talking about?" "I had my private investigator checking on them. He has discovered several patients that went in for addiction that ended up at Cliffside's residential housing for Alzheimer's. All the patients were wealthy." Logan said. "What are you going to do?" "Not sure. Still working on getting all the information. I am going to talk with Honor. I guess I need to bring Dad in on this also."

After lunch, Logan dropped Rory off at the house. He went to the Huntzburger Manor. Honor and Mitchum were meeting him there. Logan wasn't there very long when Honor and Mitchum both arrived. He explained what was going on. Honor was in shock; she didn't know what to think. Growing up a Huntzburger, she was taught at an early age to look out for people who wanted to take advantage of her. She never thought it would-be doctors. Mitchum on the other hand was mad. Logan had copies of the report from his private investigator. Mitchum was looking through it. Every once in a while, he would let out a blue streak of words not fit for a lady to hear. Logan finally got Mitchum to calm down and Honor to understand that it was not her fault. She kept saying that she liked Taylor and she couldn't believe she had left her mother there.

Logan made arrangements for Shira to be removed from Cliffside and brought home. He was flying Dr. Whaley along with his nurse to check Shira out and escort her back to Hartford. Logan didn't want to leave Rory with all that she had going on. Honor agreed to go with them.
