Chapter 54 Ricky
Rory was sitting on the sofa in the sitting room when Christopher entered from his bedroom. "Good morning my beautiful daughter," he said as he kissed her on the head. "Morning Dad" "not feeling good this morning?" Christopher asked, "Little morning sickness. I came in here. I didn't want to wake Logan. When can we leave to go home? I want to see my babies. I want to tell them not to worry, I will always be there for them." Rory said sadly. "Don't get mad but they are okay with all this. When they get older it may be a problem, but for now, they have you." Christopher said as he sat down next to Rory with a cup of coffee. Rory turned her head toward the cup of coffee and took a deep breath. Christopher decided it was best to sit somewhere else.
Christopher and Rory were talking when Logan entered. "Good morning beautiful," he said as he kissed her head. "Wow, I must really look back" Logan turned back around before he got to the kitchenette, "You look gorgeous, why would you say that?" "Dad did the same exact thing". "Men of our caliber have great taste in all things, especially women," Logan said as he winked at Rory. He headed back toward the coffee pot "Ace, you already have your coffee for today?" "No, I'm meeting Ricky and Ronnie for breakfast, I will have it then. ...Logan I was wondering if you could come with me. We are meeting downstairs at 9:30." Logan stood there with his coffee mug in his hand. "Ace, I have a zoom meeting with Shira's doctors and Honor at 9:00. They wanted to talk with us before they made their rounds. Something about one of them having an appointment out of the State. But I will be down as soon as I get off the meeting." "Okay, Dad, do you want to come?" "Rory if you need me to come I will. I had planned on meeting Nick and James at his office to work out some of the logistics of the Will. If you need me to, I will push the meeting back an hour or so" Christopher said. "No, that's okay. When can we leave? I am ready to go home," "Christopher could you have everything wrapped up by noon?" "Shouldn't be a problem" "Dad, don't you have your plane?" "No, I sent it back to California. Uncle Stanley and Aunt Betty are coming home this weekend. He told me he was tired of all the sun. They have been out there since right after Christmas. Actually, that is how I was able to get here so soon. The plane was fueled and ready to go to California. Is it okay if I catch a ride with you?" "Yes," Rory laughed.
At 8:45 Logan's phone rang. It was Honor. He took the call out on the balcony. Rory was just getting out of the shower and Christopher had already left for Nick's office. Logan came back in, took his laptop, and headed out on the balcony. He would take his Zoom meeting in the fresh air.
Close to 9 am, Rory went out on the balcony to tell Logan that she was leaving. He was deep in conversation with the doctor. From what she heard; she was worried about Logan.
Ricky and Ronnie were sitting at a table outside the restaurant. Rory joined them. "Well, how did everyone sleep last night?" Ronnie asked. "Better than the night before," Rory answered. "I think I was just worried." Ronnie nodded her head. "Ricky and I were talking...." The waitress decided at that time to approach the table. "What can I get for you today?" she said as she smiled at Ricky. "I'll have a half decaf and half coffee, a glass of orange juice, 2 scrambled eggs, toast, and 3 pieces of crisp bacon," Rory said and she handed her the menu. "Ricky, order what you want. It's my treat this morning. You too Ronnie. It will make this lady's job easier." "I'll have the pancakes, sausage, large orange juice, and a cup of coffee." Ricky said. "I'll have the same as him," Ronnie said as she pointed at Ricky. The waitress took the menu and left to put in the order.
"Ronnie, you were saying that you and Ricky talked?" Ronnie nodded her head looking at Rory. "Rory, why did you order half decal?" Ronnie asked. "Let's talk about that later, please," Rory said. "Okay, yeah, we were talking..." "Rory, I want to take the rest of the semester off. I want to move to Hartford to be close to you and the twins. Maybe you could even try to get me into Yale." Ricky said. He was very apprehensive. It had been several years since Rory was his stepmom. He didn't know how she would take him asking.
Rory sat back in her seat. She had tears forming in her eyes. Before she could say anything, the waitress returned with their food. As soon as she left, Rory looked into Ricky's eyes "I will have to discuss this with Logan, but I do not see a problem. I have plenty of room. Actually, now that I think about it. You can stay in the pool house. I can move my office back to the main house." "Really, you would do that?" Ricky said excitedly. "As I said, I will have to discuss it with Logan and there will have to be a few house rules. I don't want the twins to be exposed to things that are not age-appropriate."
Everyone at the table was smiling. The more Rory thought about it the more she liked the idea. The three of them continued to eat and talk. The waitress was just bringing the ticket for Rory to sign for the room when Logan approached them. "Hello, ladies and Ricky. How are things going?" "They are great," Rory says. "How did it go with the doctor and your mother?" "Well, Ace, Let's talk about it later. I'm starving, looks like you all are finished." Logan stood up and motioned for the waitress to bring a menu. Ricky watches Logan closely. The way Logan carried himself, the way he dressed. The confidence he had. You can tell he is a powerful man. Ricky knew his dad had money. Billy was a good man, but he did not have the air of confidence that Logan has. There was something about Logan that made Ricky feel safe as long as he was on your side. He had that feeling with Billy when he was with him. After Rory and Billy divorced, Ricky didn't see as much of his dad as he used to.
Logan, Rory, and Ronnie were talking. Ricky stood up. "Aunt Ronnie, Rory, Logan. I am going to head back to Aunt Ronnie's place. I am supposed to meet Nick at Dad's house in 30 minutes to get the keys and title to the McLaren." Rory stood up and grabbed his hand. "Go pick the car up and bring it here. I will have an answer for you, and we can make plans." Rory said, smiling. He agreed, kissing her on the cheek.
After he left, Rory asked Ronnie what she thought about his idea. "He came to me last night after talking with his mother. He told me what he wanted to do. I questioned him to make sure he was not mad at his mother or trying to prove something to Billy. He assured me that he is not. He just wants to be close to his family."
Logan looked at Rory, then at Ronnie. "Ricky wants to move to Hartford. He wants us to help him get into Yale." Rory said, looking at Logan trying to judge his reaction. Logan sat there, finishing his breakfast. He looked up at Rory. "How would you feel about moving your office into my office? There is room enough for both of us, besides, we hardly both work at home at the same time. We can move Ricky into the pool house." Rory's face had the biggest grin on it. "That's what I told him. I told him I would have to talk to you about it and there would be some house rules." "Oh course"
Ronnie was sad but also happy. She lost her brother. No one could replace him. Her nephew moving to the East Coast was a good thing. "Now, let's talk about the half decaf," Ronnie said with a smile. Logan and Rory both looked at each other and nodded. "I have got to tell my mom soon; she is going to kill me."
