Chapter 88 London
Rory guided the delivery men to the nursery. She was showing them where the furniture goes when the doorbell rang. She hurried down the stairs to answer the door. It was Tom. She showed Tom the room for the laundry. She also told him her ideas for the room. Cabinet, Drawers, and bins. Tom was taking notes. Rory was back and forth from Tom to the delivery men.
Logan left for London at 6 pm east coast time and landed in London at 9 am London time. He had his driver take him to his apartment. He instructed his driver to pick him up at noon. Logan was going to freshen up, then he had some phone calls to make. He wanted to make the phone calls from his apartment. He wasn't sure who to trust in the London office.
After his phone calls, he called his car service to pick him up. He wasn't scheduled to be in the office until the afternoon. He thought he would surprise them. Logan usually dresses for the office, suit, tie, freshly pressed shirt. Shoe shined. Today, he decided to dress casually. He wears a pair of black chino pants and a polo. He was early so he thought he would walk around the office to see what he could find out. He entered through the back so that the front desk wouldn't let anyone know he was there.
Logan walks through the newsroom. His visits to any newsroom are seldom. This is one of the things that Logan does differently than Mitchum. Mitchum was a hands-on employer. Logan likes to delegate. It wasn't that Logan didn't want to work, it was that Logan had a life outside of work. He could not imagine Mitchum dressed casually in the office on a weekday. As he was walking around, listening and looking, he was stopped by a female. She was tall, blonde, and very flirty. "May I help you, sir? You look lost. I will be happy to direct you to your desired location" The blonde said. "Thank you, but I can find my way around," Logan said as he walked away. He could hear the whispers. Several buzz words. 'Embezzlement, fired, junior, he hated that one. He heard divorced several times. He wondered what was going on. Newsroom gossip is the worst. Everyone is talking and it usually is right on the nose. He moved to the breakroom. That is always a good source of gossip. He walked in and went straight to the coffee pot. As he was waiting for his coffee to be ready, he could hear what sounded like 2 females and a male talking. They were discussing someone being fired. Whomever it was, is well-liked and was treated unfairly.
He took his cup of coffee and left. He was not even sure they knew he was in the break room. He decided it was time to head to the corporate offices. When got off the elevator, he was met by Bobbi. She was headed downstairs. Upon seeing Logan, Bobbi did not get on the elevator. She shook Logan's hand. "Mate, you are dress....casually. Did your trip interrupt something?" Bobbi asked. "My wife is pregnant, I would like to be with her and the boys, but I am here to try to figure out what happened and fix it."
When Logan left London many years ago, Bobbi became CEO of the European division of HPG. Logan feels that this is something she should have caught before it got out of hand. Logan hand-picked the heads of departments when he took over at HPG. Some heads were appointed to their positions by Mitchum. When Logan took office, there were several he encouraged to retire. He replaced them with people he could trust. When he took over, Logan did not want to be like Mitchum and have his hand in every pot. Logan followed her into her office. Logan took a seat at the conference table. He picked up a folder, while Bobbie brought over the spreadsheets. "Show me where the discrepancy is," Logan said as he stood up to get a closer look at the spreadsheets. Bobbi pulled up a file on her laptop. "This laptop is not hooked to the server. It is not hooked to the internet. When the discrepancy was brought to my attention. I copied the file onto a flash drive, then moved it to this laptop." Logan tilted his head, put his hands together, and looked at her. "My thought process was that whoever is taking this money, probably has been covering it up. Logan, I am sure I would have noticed this. I figured that I could compare the flash drive to the corrected version to see if I could find a money trail. Logan I did try to fix this without calling you, but what I think I have found is something you will have to address personally." Logan looked at her. "What do you know, that you should have told me before I made the trip to London?" Logan asked Bobbi. The pieces of the puzzle were beginning to come together.
"Logan, just look at the file. It shows the money trail." Bobbi said just as someone knocked on the door. Bobbi walked to the door while Logan opened the file. He studied the flow charts. Until he came to a company name that he recognized. Logan stood up quickly, he grabbed his cell phone out of his pocket. He just stared at it. He wasn't sure who he needed to call. He wasn't sure what he needed to do. He headed to the door. Bobbi was talking with one of her assistants. "Excuse me, I need some fresh air. Bobbi, I'll be back later. I just need some air" Logan said as he headed to the elevator. He wasn't sure where he was going. All of a sudden Bobbi's office felt like the walls were closing in.
Rory was sitting at her desk working on some more edits for her book. She couldn't get comfortable. She was not that big. She was only pregnant in her belly. Even with the twins, she only got pregnant in her belly. Her mom told her she hated her. She stood up. Her baby girl was the size of a grapefruit but she was causing her mommy to hurt in the back. Rory walked around for a little while, hoping to get some relief. Finely her back eased off. She made a mental note to call Paris. Maybe it was her age. She just couldn't remember being this uncomfortable at 23-24 weeks.
