Chapter 106 Friday, Take the rest of the day off.

Rory was eating breakfast Friday morning. Evelyn was working out great. Ms. Lewis has cut back to one day a week, starting next week. Rory gave her a list of meals she was craving. Ms. Lewis was glad to fix them for her. Evelyn stopped by the bar in the kitchen where Rory was sitting, drinking her one cup of coffee and reading the paper. "Can I get you anything else?" Evelyn asked. "No thank you. Will you sit with me for a few minutes?" Rory asked. Evelyn sat across from her. "Be honest with me, Please. How do you like working here? Are we keeping you too busy, not enough to do? I always worry about Ms. Lewis and now you are getting bored. I try to teach the boys to clean up behind themselves, Logan too, but sometimes it's like talking to the wind." Rory said. Evelyn smiled. "Everything is fine. I enjoy working for you and Logan. I noticed the boys try to make their beds in the mornings before school. I hope you don't mind, after they leave, I will make them up properly." Rory shook her head. "That's fine. Just don't make it up if they have not put in the effort. That's important to me."

Logan surprises Rory, he comes home for lunch. They were sitting at the dining room table eating a sandwich and some soup. "You want to take the rest of the day off?" Logan turned his head sideways to look at her. "Get that goofy look off your face. Mom will be here when the boys get out of school. She wants them to spend the weekend with her. There is some festival or another she wants them to attend." Rory said. "So, me taking the rest of the day off?........ Is it so that when they leave we can be kid-free this afternoon?" Logan said. Rory just shrugged her shoulders "Maybe, but we are not kid-free. I got one attached to me at the moment.." Logan got up and knelt by Rory's chair. Put his hand on Rory's baby bump. "Em," He whispered. "You be good to momma. Let daddy play a little" Rory slapped his hand off her belly. "Don't say things like that to her." Logan stood up laughing. If you will let me make a few phone calls, taking the day off will not be a problem." Logan said walking toward the office.

Logan was just finishing up a call with John when Rory walked into the office. She walked to his desk and sat in his lap. Logan made a noise like she was too heavy. But I started laughing. She was 27 weeks and had only gained 10 pounds. The doctor was actually getting on to her to eat more. "The boys will be home in about 30 minutes," Rory said. Logan looked at her. "Okay?" Rory just buried her head in his shoulder. "Rory," Logan said. "Look at me". "You called me Rory," she said. "That's because I want you to know that I am being serious. What's going on?" Logan was looking into her eyes. Then it dawned on him. "You want me to be here when Lorelai gets here, so she won't say anything about us hiring a new maid." Rory just put her head by his shoulder. "Hey. look at me. You are a grown woman. You need to let her know. I just got one selfish woman out of my life...... No, wait, I didn't mean it like that. We are not cutting Lorelai out of our lives. That is not what I mean." Logan just shook his head. He was making a mess of this. "Let me start over. Your mother needs to let you and I make the decisions for our family. We are not asking your parents or mine for anything other than to be the best grandparents they can be. Other than that, we know what we are doing. And if we don't, we will figure it out." Logan said. He was not upset at Rory, he was upset at Lorelai making Rory feel like she was disappointed in her for having people to help her.

"Rory, did Lorelai act like this when you were married to Billy?" Logan asked. "I lived in Florida. She was not privy to the day-to-day operations of our household. The first book tour I went on after the twins were born, my nanny and Ronnie came with me. Lorelai was with me on some of our stops. She made a few comments here and there, but she could see, for me to have a career, I had to have a nanny. What she did not have knowledge of, was that we had 2 maids, a chef, a nanny, and a night nurse." Logan looked at Rory and smiled. She hit him on the back. "Don't look at me like that. Billy was working all the time, Ricky was staying with us and didn't have a driver's license. It took me, Billy, when he was home, Ronnie, and a nanny to keep up with his schedule."

Logan was laughing, "Let me tell you about the time Finn had the gorgeous redhead as a nanny. We were only 14, so she had to drive......" Logan stopped. He heard someone knock on the door and then open it. Rory got up and headed to the door. She wanted to get to Lorelai before Evelyn got to the door. "Mom, you are early. The boys have another 15 minutes and that is if Karson doesn't take them to Sonic first." "She takes them to Sonic every day after school? Lorelai asked as Logan entered the room. "Just on Friday," Logan said. "And that is if they both didn't pull a red card all week," Rory said. "Red card?" "Yeah, mom. They have to pull a red card if they do not listen, talk in class, or anything else that is misbehaving." "Rory, they are 4 years old." "Mom, I was a good child. You didn't get any calls from the school about me misbehaving because I was too scared. Last week Will got in trouble for talking in line. And the week before Chris got in trouble for tripping a girl." Logan and Rory were trying not to laugh.

"I raised a girl. Boys are harder." Lorelai said. Evelyn walked in with a tray of cookies, some tea. She sat down on the table in front of Rory. She poured Rory a cup and then Logan. She looked at Lorelai. "Ma'am, would you like some tea?" Lorelai's eyes were wide-eyed. "Evelyn, this is my mother Lorelai. If you don't mind, make her a cup of coffee." Rory said. "Yes ma'am"

When she left the room, Lorelai turned her head toward Logan and Rory. "Before you say anything, Ms. Lewis is retiring. Evelyn worked at the Huntzburger Manor. Cynthia and Mitchum did not feel comfortable keeping the staff. They were not sure who would be loyal." Rory said. "When I agreed to let Dad and Cynthia move into the Huntzburger Manor, I promised Evelyn she would have a job. She has worked at the Huntzburger Manor since I was a little boy." Lorelai sat back in her chair, looking at Rory. Before she could say anything, the boys came running in hollowing "Nana '' They both dove into her lap. She was laughing and tickling the boys. Karson came in with bookbags and papers. "Will, Chris, Why is Karson tooting your bookbags, papers, and drinks?" Rory asked. Will got up and took his and Chris' book bags from Karson. Chris took the drinks. "Take the bookbags upstairs, and the drink in the trash in the kitchen if you are finished with them," Both boys told Lorelai they would be right back. Karson handed Rory the papers. "It's some type of fundraiser," Karson said. "Do you need me to pack their clothes?" Karson asked. "No, I packed this morning after Evelyn finished with the laundry," Rory said. "Okay, I'm headed to my room. I have a date tonight. We are going to the drive-in with Gigi and I forgot his name." "Okay," Rory said. Logan looked at his watch. "Ricky should be getting off soon. The mailroom doesn't work all day Friday." Logan said.

Before the boys returned, Lorelai asked about Ricky and Karson dating. "Does her mother know that she is living in the same house with the boys she is dating?" Rory laughed. "I don't know what she tells Katie. I haven't talked to her since she called me yelling about me not letting Karson come home for Christmas." Lorelai was looking at Rory, waiting for her to say something else. "Rory offered for Karson to take the whole week off. She chose to go see her mom before everyone got there because she did not want to deal with her step-brother and his wife." They were ready to go. They were standing at the door, telling Lorelai they had to hurry. Rory got up to go give them a bye kiss when Logan stopped Lorelai. "We have some security concerns right now. Melissa is still missing. Shira got on a plane for California, but I would not put it past her to come back. Two of my guys will be in Stars Hollow this weekend. I made the reservations at the Dragonfly. Do you want me to send them to your house to introduce themselves? The boys know who they are." Lorelai looked at Logan. "Are you for real? Do you think someone will try to take or harm the boys while they are at the festival? Logan this is Stars Hollow. Everyone knows everyone." Lorelai said. "So there will be no tourists at this festival. I mean, from what I have heard of Taylor. The festivals are his money makers with all the tourists." Logan said.

Rory came back into the living room, having heard part of the conversation. "Mom, we are not sure about Melissa, we just want them safe." She looked at Logan "Who will be there, Adam and Scott?" Rory asked. Logan shook his head. "No Curt and Ryan," Logan said. "Mom Curt and Ryan look like they are about 18 years old. They are older, but don't let that fool you. They know what they are doing. They will blend in" Lorelai just shook her head. Hugged Rory's neck. "Bye, We will take good care of them. I love you" She let go of Rory and shook Logan's hand. "If you are this protective of those two, this girl will not stand a chance," Lorelai said. Logan smiled.

Logan and Rory walked Lorelai to the car. Helping the boys get bucked in her Jeep. Logan was shutting the door, when Will yelled out to them "Bye Momma, Bye Daddy". Lorelai put the Jeep in gear and headed for the gate.
