Chapter 67 Accident?

It had been almost a week since Logan returned from California. No one has heard from Shira. Honor was worried. She was still mad at her, but she was worried. Logan was closing on the house in a couple of days. Rory and the decorator have been working to get the house ready. Ricky seems to be fitting in well. Logan offered him a job until he starts school. The twins were back in school 4 half days a week. Karson also started back to school.

The house was quiet. Rory was in the office. She was working on her book when she heard the doorbell ring. She wasn't sure if Ms. Lewis could answer the door, so she got up. Ms. Lewis was at the door signing for a package. "Thank you, Ms. Lewis," Rory said as she opened the FedEx envelope. Rory scanned over the cover letter before thumbing through the rest of the information. Rory had started back toward the office when something in the package caught her eye. She turned around and headed to the garage. "Ms. Lewis, I will be out of the house for a little while. I will have my phone. Karson is picking up the boys."

Rory drove straight to Logan's office. She didn't even think to call him. When she entered the building, she stopped by Renea's desk to pick up a visitor's badge. As she was walking away, she asked Renea to call Logan and tell him she was on the way.

Logan was standing at his door waiting when she arrived on his floor. "Ace, not that I am not glad to see you, but this is unusual." "Hey," she said as she got closer. He kissed her on the lips then followed her into his office. "I got this today, special delivery." She said, handing him the folder. Logan sat down at his desk and read the letter. He looked up at Rory, who was pacing around the front of his office. He looked back down, reading the rest of the information. When he finished, he stood up. "Ace," he said, moving toward her. "Calm down. Let me get Nick on the phone." Rory sat down in the chair in front of Logan's desk. He looked through his phone and found Nick's number. He dials it on the office phone. While it was ringing, he texted Dillon to come to his office if he was in the building.

"Hello" came from the phone. "Nick, It's Logan Huntzburger. I hope I am not calling at an inconvenient time." "No, Logan. I am sure I know what you are calling about." "Yes, Rory is here with me. Received information from Duval County investigator." "Yes, I also have the information. I talked with Investigator Ryan. He hand-delivered it to me. I advised him that sending you this information would be wise." "It says here that they think Billy's wreck was not an accident," Logan said. "Have you contacted Ronnie or James?" Rory asked. "Yes, she called me as soon as she got the paperwork. I have talked to James. We are sure the next step will be to freeze all of Billy's accounts until they finish investigating. It is possible that will call the FBI in due to part of the estate going out of State." "Okay, let me know if you find anything else out and I will do the same. We will tell Ricky what is going on." Logan said.

He hung up the phone. When he looked up, Dillon was standing in the doorway. "Sorry to listen in, but I figured this has something to do with why you called me in," Dillon said. "Yes, have a seat. Ace, will you go to the mailroom and ask Ricky to come to the office." Rory got up to go find Ricky.

While she was gone, Dillon said. "Before we get into this, let me go ahead and tell you that I have tracked Shira to the Martin in Hartford." Logan looked at him "She is using the account we have set up for out-of-town guests." Dillon nodded his head. "She has been there since yesterday. She is alone." "Keep an eye on her. I will deal with that after I deal with Billy's accident.

Rory and Ricky returned to Logan's office. Rory had a cup of coffee. "Ace, do you think that is a good idea?" "I tried to tell her, but she wouldn't listen to me," Ricky said. "I just need a few sips to calm me down." She said as she sat on the sofa in Logan's office. Logan just shook his head. "Ricky has a seat," Logan said gesturing toward the sofa as Logan walked to the conference table and leaned on it. "We have reason to believe that Billy's wreck was not an accident." The room was silent. "An investigator Ryan from the Duval County Sheriff's Office sent paperwork advising us that he has opened an investigation. I called Nick. He is aware. He advised that it would probably be turned over to the FBI. If so, they will freeze all of Billy's accounts." Ricky looked worried. "Don't worry. We will take care of you. You never have to worry about that." Rory said. Ricky nodded his head. "Dillon will be looking into this also. So don't worry. We will get to the bottom of this." Logan said. "Ricky, if you are contacted by anyone that wants to ask questions about Billy or the accident. Get their number and tell them you can't talk now; you will call them back. Then I need you to find Logan or myself before you answer any questions. I know that you did not do anything wrong, but I don't want them trying to turn this around on you." Ricky nodded. "Why don't you take the rest of the day off?" Rory asked, looking at Logan to agree. Logan nodded his head. Ricky stood up. "If it is alright with you, I would like to go back to work." "No problem, but just know that I am here if you need me," Logan said.

When Ricky left the room, Dillon stood up. "I will make copies of this and bring the original back to you," Dillon said as he exited the room. Logan looked at Rory "Don't worry so much, it is not good for you or the baby." Rory nodded her head. "You are not going to believe what Dillon found out," Logan said. Rory just looked at him with her eyebrow raised. "Shira is in town. Yeah, she is at the Martin. She got in yesterday. I assume she is using the corporate account. No one would question her at the Martin, they would just set her up in a room."

"What are you going to do?" "I haven't put much thought into it yet, but I am going to call Dad and Honor. Then I might go see her or I might just call the Morgan Hotel and have her account closed. I will have to think about it. We close on the house Friday. I may just leave this information alone until we close. Then I can show her to her house." Rory sneakered. "Have you changed the locks on the Manor?" Rory asked, no, she doesn't have a key and the staff have been told not to let her in. I did change the gate passcode."

As Rory was leaving the building to go home, she thought, I wouldn't know what to do with myself if I had a normal day.
