Chapter 95 Who's at the door?
Before Karson could get to the door, Lorelai busted in. "I'm here, mommy's here." Lorelai swooped into the living room, straight to Rory. "My baby, what are you doing downstairs? You should be resting." Rory cut her off. "Mother, I am resting. I am also visiting. Would you like for me to introduce you to my guest?" Rory said as she motioned toward Cynthia. Before Lorelai could answer, Rory heard thunder footsteps climbing the stairs. "Nana, Nana, you come to take us to your house?" Chris asked. "I want to stay with momma, so I can help take care of her until she feels better. Logan said I could" Will said. "Hey guys," Rory said. "Nana is here as a guest. She did not come to take you away." "Nana's not a guest," Lorelai said. "Momma, you know Nana will whisk these creatures away anytime," Lorelai said as she was hugging and tickling the boys. She looked at the shy girl, around the age of 10 or 12. "Well, who do we have here, Will, is this your girlfriend? Will, I think she is too old for you" Lorelai said laughing. "Mother" Rory started again. Hoping her tone will enlighten her mother to stop acting like a child. "That is Jessi, and behind you is Cynthia. Jessi, Cynthia, this is my mother Lorelai Gilmore-Danes." Cynthia stood up. "Nice to meet you Lorelai," she said, sticking her hand out. Lorelai looked at it then at Rory. "Nice to meet you too," Lorelai said as she took her hand. "Mom, why don't you sit down," Rory said. Cynthia had moved to the other end of the sofa to give Lorelai room to sit close to her daughter. "Boys, go downstairs and play." "Karson, will you come with us? Ricky is asleep. He won't play with us. Chris asked. Karson smiled at the kids, getting up to go downstairs with them. Rory could hear Karson say, "Let's wake Ricky up" as they were going down the stairs.
Lorelai looked at Rory and rolled her eyes. "Are you feeling okay? Did you get a nap before visitors started coming to see you? I waited, I wanted to make sure you had time to nap first." "Yes Mother, I had a nice nap. I was awake, reading in bed when Cynthia, Jessi, and Mitchum came to visit." "Oh," Lorelai said. "So that is where your husband is. Talking business in the office. My, my, my, he never stops. Always so busy." Lorelai said. Rory was watching Cynthia while Lorelai was talking. How could her mother be so rude? Oh, because of the way she is dressed, Lorelai just assumes she is in society.
"Mitchum and Logan are in the office talking. Cynthia and I were discussing the renovations of the Huntzburger Manor and all the new furniture that arrived for the nursery. I am sure they would have been bored, '' Rory said. She was trying her best to give her mother a look that would tell her to shut up. Lorelai was looking at Rory, maybe she got the hint. Lorelai turned so she was facing Cynthia. Cynthia is wearing an argon white sweater dress with black tights and ankle boots. She did not have a lot of jewelry, just a thin chain with a birthstone around her neck, a beautiful watch, and a couple of rings. Nothing too fancy, While Lorelai is wearing a pair of jeans and a sweater with her black ankle boot.
Rory decided to try to keep the hostility down a bit. "Cynthia, my mother owns two Inns in Stars Hollow." "Stars Hollow?" Cynthia asked. "Yes," Lorelai said. "You must be the owner of Dragonfly?" Cynthia asked. "Yes, I, along with my partner, Sookie Bellville, she is the head chef, own the original Draganfly and we have just opened an annex to specialize in spa treatments. You should come to visit sometimes." Lorelai told her. Cynthia smiled back. I think I will. Do you have anything that caters to young girls? Jessi is 12. She loves getting pedicures. I know she would love to try different spa treatments." Cynthia said. Lorelai pulled a card out of her back pocket and handed it to Cynthia. "This is the number, and the website. You can call in or you can book your appointments online." Cynthia took the card and smiled.
"Nana, come play with us" Rory could hear what sounded like Will on the top of the basement stairs. "Sorry to meet and run, but my grandson is calling me," Lorelai said as she got up to go to the basement. Rory was just shaking her head. She didn't want to see the look in Cynthia's eyes. Before she could look up, Mrs. Lewis entered asking if they needed anything? Rory looked at Cynthia "Mrs. Lewis, if you have any of that sourcream pound cake left, we would like a couple of pieces." Rory said, looking at Cynthia. "Yes, I have a couple of pieces left, I will be right back, would you like some coffee or another bottle of water?" Mrs. Lewis asked. "Water will be great," Cynthia said. Rory nodded.
"My mother, sometimes I'm not sure who raised whom." Cynthia smiles. "She didn't bother me. Mitchum should have called Logan first." "No," Rory said. "Logan told him to give me time for a nap and then to come by. He told me that he needed to talk to him about London and that I could visit with you and Jessi while he did." Rory said."My mother had me so young, that we both grew up together. Sometimes I don't think she has grown up all the way up yet." Mrs. Lewis returned to the room with 2 bottles of water and a couple of plates with slices of pound cake on it.
"Thank you, Mrs. Lewis," Rory said. "I am getting super ready for tonight. Do you want me to bring out a casserole for the family and fix you some chicken noodle soup?" Mrs. Lewis asked. "The family can order take out. I'm not sure how long my mother will stay and I am sure I will be receiving more guests tonight. But if you would be so kind as to fix me some chicken noodle soup, or just set a couple of cans on the stove so Logan can find it without asking a hundred times 'where did you say it was'?" All three ladies laughed. "After you put the soup cans so Logan can see them, you can go for the day," Rory said. "Thank you. I have a grocery order coming tomorrow, I will come in to receive it." Mrs. Lewis said. "I'll be stuck at home for a while. I am sure Logan will be working from the house. He can receive the grocery order and I will get Karson or Ricky to put it away. You take your day off as per usual." Rory said. "I will if you promise to call me in if you see that you need me." Rory smiled and nodded her head. Mrs. Lewis turned to walk back into the kitchen.
"See, that is what I am talking about. Your help loves you. You are so nice to them." Cynthia said. "Well, Logan talks highly of Evelyn that works at the Huntzburger Manor," Rory said. Cynthia sighed. "We are starting fresh with a new staff. Mitchum is afraid that someone may be loyal to Shira and he does not want someone going back and telling her what is going on in the house." Cynthia said. "I believe it was Logan's idea. Rory nodded. "That must mean we are getting Evelyn. I know Logan told her if Mitchum got rid of the staff, he would help find places for them. He told me if that is what Mitchum wanted to do, Evelyn was coming to us." Rory said. "Well, I am sure she will enjoy working for you," Cynthia said.
