Chapter 79 Sunday in the Hollow
Sunday morning Logan and Rory were laying in bed. It was still early, but because the boys did not get to exert much energy yesterday, Rory knew that they would be up early. "Hey," Rory said, picking her head up off Logan's chest. "Hey yourself," Logan answered. "Let's go to Stars Hollow today. The boys can play at the Crap Shack. I can visit with Lane. I can call Sookie and see if she will fix a Sunday lunch at the Inn." "Sounds good to me," Logan said as he sat up. Moving Rory off his chest. "Make your phone calls, I'm getting in the shower," Logan said, leaving Rory still in bed. She gave him time to get in the shower, then she joined him.
Rory, Logan, WIll, and Chris arrived at the Crap Shack. Although it is just March, the weather was not too cold. The boys had their mittens and scarves. They were excited to be outside. Lorelai tried to get a hug from them, but they were too fast. She loved playing with the boys and could not wait to meet her granddaughter. Before Rory could get on the porch, she saw Steve and Kwan running toward the boys. Lane and Cindy were not too far behind.
After Logan dropped Rory and the boys off at the Crap Shack, he went to the office to meet with Dillon. He wanted someone that could get to the bottom of what was going on at his house. He did not like the idea that his family was not safe. Rory loved that house and so did he, But if it met keeping his family safe, he would move to an estate with fortified walls. With guards at each entrance as well as guards at the entrance of the neighborhood. Logan shook his head. He did not want to think about that. He needed to find out what was going on.
Rory and Lane went to the Crap Shack after giving the twins, both set, strict instructions. Cindy was going to play with the boys until she realized her mother was going into the house. She followed Rory and Lane. When they got situated on the couch so that they could see outside, Cindy went to Rory's old room and brought out a Barbie camper and some Barbie dolls. Lane gave Lorelai some of Cindy's older toys to keep at her house. Cindy stayed with Luke and Lorelai some of the time. Lorelai was at the Inn and Luke was at the Diner. Lane and Rory talked about everything. Lane told Rory about Zach coming to visit. She asked Rory to help her figure out what he wanted. He had not seen the boys in over a year. He had only talked with them a handful of times during the year. "Well, what did he say?" Rory asked. "That he wanted to see the boys. He wanted to take them to Hartford to the new ice cream shop on 4th, you know the one by the dress shop we like so much." Lane told her. "Yeah, I know the one. Didn't know there was a new ice cream shop, i" ll have to take the boys. As you can see, I have not been dress shopping. At that shop anyway." Rory and Lane both laughed. "I told him that I did not think that was a good idea. I told him that Taylor's Sweet Shoppe was open and he should take them there. He finally agreed after Dave came home. It was like he was going to see how far he could push me. When Dave got home, I guess he thought it was not worth it." Lane said. "We talked when he walked the boys back to the house. When I say we, I mean me, Dave, and Zach. He told us he had a try out for lead guitar for Pete's Pirates." "Pete's Pirates? Do they dress like pirates?" Rory asked. "Yes," they both started laughing. "He said that he was asked to play with them when they opened for Loverboy in the Staples Arena in California. " "Wow, maybe this is the break that he has been waiting for," Rory said. "Yeah, Maybe," Lane said. She's heard this before. For the boy's shake, she hoped so.
Logan was at his office in Harford. It was Sunday. No one bothers him. He told the guard at the front door to let Dillon up. Logan was on his computer doing some research when Dillon walked in. "Hey, Logan, What's going on? Since you and Rory got back together, I don't think I have been called in on a Sunday." "Yeah, Sunday is family day." Logan took a deep breath. "I need your help," Logan said as Dillon sat down and pulled out his notepad. "Friday night Rory and I were at a dinner party. We found out earlier in the week that Ronnie, Billy's sister, was having some trouble with Melissa, Billy's girlfriend. What do you call the girlfriend of a dead guy? Logan asked. Dillon just shook his head. "Anyway, Ronnie believes Melissa broke into Billy's house. Ronnie and James are having it remodeled. She called Ricky so that Ricky could tell us to be careful. She wouldn't put it past her to head to Hartford. I didn't want to take any chances, so I convinced Rory to let me put security on the property. While we were gone Friday night, Andy, the security guy on duty saw signs of someone who had been on the property. The police investigated as did the security company. They found where someone scaled the privacy fence in the back of the property. They moved one of the picnic tables at the playground over to the fence. They are pretty sure whoever it was, came through the front gate. We just haven't figured out how." "Could someone have opened the gate without knowing?" Dillon asked. "There is an open button on the TV remote. You have to punch in a 4 digit code. I guess one of the boys could have opened it by mistake. I just don't know. I have changed the code for the gate and disconnected the TV remote from the gate." "Do you think it was this Melissa?" Dillon asked. Logan put his head down on this desk. "Dillon, it is a possibility, but I have a feeling that it is Shira," Logan said. His voice was muffled because he had his head in his hands on his desk. "You said Shira, Right? Logan nodded his head. "Okay, I will need the name of the security company you used as well as the supervisor for this job. I will also need to know your contact at the police department. While you are at it, go ahead and get the numbers to the lead Agent you have been talking to." Logan grabbed his laptop and started typing. "I will email it to you in just a minute. Dillon, I need you to find out what is going on. This is my family. We stayed in the house all day yesterday. Today they are in Stars Hollow so they can play outside."
Rory, Lane, Cindy, and the boys were walking to the DragonFly for supper when Karson and Ricky pulled up in Ricky's Mclean. Ricky blew the horn and Rory jumped. Karson rolled down the window. "Rory, I told him not to do that. He will scare you into labor." Karson said. Lane and the boys laughed. When they got to the Inn, Logan pulled up. Luke was right behind him. Lorelai was glad to see everyone. She had hoped to be able to leave the inn early enough to spend some time with Rory before the crowd got too big, but Michel had a problem with his dog walker and had to leave early.
Everyone had a wonderful time. Talking and laughing. No one wanted to talk about anything serious. If you are in the know, you could look at each adult and tell them that there is more going on that they acknowledge today.
