Chapter 94 Mitchum, Logan and Acerogan, Inc.
Mitchum and Logan are in the home office. As they sat down, Logan said. "Cynthia seems like a very nice lady. I hope this is not a show she is putting on. It would be great if Rory and Cynthia got along. Right now, Rory won't tell Lorelai everything because she nitpicks it. Rory thinks Lana is too young for her dad and is afraid he is going to have another kid, that he takes care of better than he did her. And she thinks that Lana will not make a good grandma to the boys and Em." Mitchum laughed. "Drama, always drama."
"Well I guess we had better come up with a plan," Mitchum said. "Dillon is still doing some investigation into how this happened. "When I sold Acerogan, Inc. I retained 5 shares. I set up an account for the dividends to be put in. I have more than 100 small accounts designed for the different dividends. If I was to lose everything pertaining to the Huntzburger name, I will still have enough money for me, Rory, and the kids to live a comfortable life." Mitchum raised an eyebrow. He didn't tell Logan enough, but he is proud of him. "That's interesting, where did you learn that from?" Mitchum asked. "Well, I know you think you bought me my education at Yale. I am sure the Huntzburger name helped a lot. But I did go to class. Do you remember Benjamin Folslue? He was a member of the LDB. We were playing poker one night in college and ran out of money. He offered financial advice for life in exchange for $100,000 to settle his debt. Finn, Collin, Seth, and I gave him the money. He met with us the very next day and showed us how to "hide" money from our wives. When we got a wife. At the time, the 4 of us set up 3 or 4 accounts with small amounts. We have been meeting with him twice a year since we graduated. Call him when we need advice." Logan smiled at his Dad. "Not a dumb as you think?" Mitchum said. "Yes, you are very smart. You have had your grandfather's business since. I know I don't tell you this often, but I am proud of the man you have become. I would love to take the credit when my peers tell me what a good business I raise, but I can't. This is all you." "Thanks, Dad. But afforded me the opportunities. I just took advantage of it."
They both sat there for a few minutes. Logan could still hear Rory and Cynthia talking. "Dad, I have the proof. I will show it to you. But first, let me walk you through what I and my staff believe happened." Mitchum nodded as Logan began. Logan explained to Mitchum that when he sold Acerogan Inc he retained 5 shares. This stock has greatly increased in value. "As you know, when I moved back to the east coast. Shira insisted I move into the poolhouse until I could find a proper apartment. Well, that lasted a week." Mitchum snickered, "I could have told you it would last long." "Anyway, I stored some boxes at Honor's house when I moved to California. When I took up residence at Huntzburger pool house, she shipped them to me." Logan looked down at his hands. Telling anyone this part embarrassed Logan, especially after Mitchum told him how proud of him he was. "Logan," Mitchum said. "I packed up my office, but I hired someone to pack up my apartment. I packed a suitcase and left town. After spending a few days with Colin and Finn in Vegas, I returned to New York and met with Stanley and Sherman. They told me about HPG not looking to the future. I believe that is the way they put it. Anyway, I started immediately after meeting with you and my lawyer. I moved out of the poolhouse and into the HPG apartment in New York while I looked for a place to stay. When the movers asked for an address to ship my boxes to, I gave them the address to the Huntzburger Manor. I figured after I got settled I would go through the boxes. During this time, mom-Shira would call me every day about something petty. This day she called about a sofa or something that she had to replace. I was busy. I told her I would be in Hartford the weekend and we could discuss it then. When I got to Hartford, nothing else was said about the sofa." Logan picked up a copy of a bank statement and showed it to Mitchum. Mitchum looked at it, then looked at Logan. Mitchum stood up, causing the chair he was sitting in to fall. "Are you telling me that all this started with $199,999? Sofa from Lindon Furniture?" Mitchum yelled. "Dad, sit down. Do not alarm Rory. No, the sofa was not bought at Lindon's. It was bought at a small shop in London that specialized in Italian furniture. This is the cost of the sofa plus delivery. One of the boxes that I had stored in the pool house or one of them that I shipped to the pool house had a checkbook to the account I started for my Acerogan dividend. I put a couple of million dollars in it to start it off. A couple of years ago, one of the smaller papers in London was downsizing. This paper was not owned by HPG. I owned it. I linked my Acerogan account with the newspaper's account so they could completely reconstruct the paper. After the paper was reconstructed. HPG bought it for what I had in it. I forgot about the accounts being linked together." "So your mother has had access to your Acerogan accounts?" Mitchum asked. Logan shook his head. No, she has had access to several accounts that are linked to each other. I was questioned by the HPG accountant about the money that I was spending out of one of the accounts that belonged to me. I have several accounts that he keeps an eye on for me. I had just returned from a trip to Paris. I was furnishing my London apartment. I spent money and didn't keep up with it. I told him not to worry about it. That account was my 'Fun' account. I didn't know he was talking about my Acerogan account. "Have you closed the account?" "Yes." "So, you are telling me that for several years, you have been financing the household bills, giving her spending as well as paying her credit card the whole while she was embezzling from you, now HPG?" Logan just put his head on his desk. His voice was muffled, but he said "yes Dad. What am I going to do?" "Lock her ass up," Mitchum said. Logan looked up. He could see the steam coming from Mitchum. "Dad, please sit down. Calm down. I know it was stupid of me to trust my mother, but she gave me life."
Mitchum and Logan sat in the house office thinking. After a little while, Mitchum said, "Son, we will figure out what to do. Right now, you need to concentrate on Rory and the baby. I'll talk with some friends of mine. Maybe they can tell us what to do." Logan nodded. "Collin said that the only legal ramification we have is criminal. After she is found guilty, then we could sue, but what good would that do?" Let's go check on the ladies" Mitchum said. "Yeah, I thought I heard someone knock on the door earlier."
