Chapter 103 Ms. Lewis Evelyn

Rory woke to a cold bed Monday morning. When Logan returned from meeting with Shira, He sat with her and the boys, watching a movie. About halfway through the movie, Logan kissed Rory and told her he had some things to do in the office. "Come get me to carry them to bed. I am sure they will be asleep." Logan told her. Now she woke up to a note. 'Ace, don't forget Evelyn is coming in today. I have asked Honor to stop by and help you. I will try to get home in time to help. I Love You. I Love our Life- Thank you. L

Rory could think of better ways to wake up. This was not her top pick, but it wasn't so bad. She was getting out of the shower and she could hear noises downstairs. Karson and the boys were just leaving. She stole a kiss before they got out the door. "Karson, coming back home today, or do you have class?" Rory asked. "I've got a few errands to run, then I'll be back," Karson told her. Rory entered the kitchen, to Ricky Putting his cereal bowl in the dishwasher. "Goodmorning" Rory told him as she sat down at the bar. "Let me get you some juice," Ricky said. "Logan already left for work?" Ricky asked as he was pouring her juice. "Yeah, I had a note in place of him when I woke up this morning." "Do you need me to stick around until Karson gets back," Ricky asked looking at his watch? "No, I'll be fine, Ms. Lewis will be here shortly." "Okay, see you tonight," Ricky said as he picked up his backpack and headed to his car.

Rory was reading a book in the sitting room when the doorbell rang. When she stood up to answer the door, the house phone started to ring. She grabbed it as she headed to the door. "Huntzburger residence, Hold for me please," Rory said as she put the phone down and answered the door. It was Evelyn. "Come in. Ms. Lewis will be here in a minute. She may already be here. She parks around back. COme have a seat. I will be there in just a minute." Rory told her as she picked the phone up. "Sorry, you had to hold. This is Rory." "This is Lorelai." "Hey, mom,k sorry about that. I am home alone this morning. The phone rang at the same time as the doorbell. What are you up to today?" "Well, I will be answering my own door. I am used to it, unlike the fruit of my loins" Lorelai said. Rory rolled her eyes, her mother said that as a joke, but she was sure she could hear sarcasm. "Very funny Mom. I would love to continue this chat, but I have company, and I need to get started." Rory said. "I'll talk to you later today" and hung up the phone. Rory grimaced. She would pay for that. But she did not want to deal with Lorelai right now. She would find out soon enough that she was hiring more help.

When Rory entered the sitting room, Ms. Lewis was also, sitting with Evelyn. They both had a cup of coffee and Rory could see the cup of tea Ms. Lewis brought her. "Ladies, I am sorry for the delay. Ms. Lewis do you know Evelyn?" Ms. Lewis nodded her head. We have been friends for years. Our husbands used to golf together. That was before I lost my Sam." Evelyn said. "Well that is good," Rory said. "I didn't mean you losing your husband Everlyn, I'm sorry," Rory said, she had flustered herself. "Rory, sit down before you hurt yourself." Ms. Lewis said. Rory sat down. Evelyn knew that Ms. Rory and Mr. Logan were easy to work for, Ms. Lewis told her all about it, but do they allow the help to talk to them like this?

Rory was taking a sip of her tea. "Evelyn, I'm not sure how much you know about how this house runs. I will give you the bones of our family structure." Rory said. Ms. Lewis sat back in her chair, while Evelyn nodded her head, eager to hear what the new Mrs. Huntzburger had to say.

"This house belonged to my grandparents. Richard and Emily Gilmore. My grandma signed this house over to me after my divorce and right before she passed." Rory cleared her throat. She missed her grandparents and these hormones are not helping. Ms, Lewis passed her a tissue. "I'm sorry, hormones are wreaking havoc on me this morning. I furnished this house with a mixture of my grandma's style and my style." Rory smiled thinking about her and Emily discussing making this house kid-friendly. "As you can see, this house is kid-friendly. I have twin boys, they are 4. Will be 5 in July. Will and Chris Greene. They are from my first marriage, their dad passed away first of the year. Their half-brother, Ricky, 21 years old lives in the pool house. I have a part-time nana, Karson, who lives in the apartment in the basement. I will let Ms. Lewis give you a tour of the house. Ms. Lewis has graciously agreed to continue to keep our freezer full. I'll let her explain all that to you. Cliff notes she keeps our freezer full, sometimes working from here, sometimes working from home. She will show you all the instructions for warming up meals. Don't get me wrong. Logan, Ricky, Karson, or myself are capable of warming up our meals. We have a maid service that comes twice a week. They are responsible for the deep cleaning. Your job will be to help us in any way you can. Some days, we have more help than we can stir in a pot. Some days, like this morning, I was by myself when the phone and doorbell rang at the same time. Rory was smiling thinking about it.

I'm sure there are things that I am forgetting, but you will catch on easily. You will see that this house is run quite differently from the Huntzburger Manor. I was raised to do things for myself. I am learning to let people help. When Em gets here". Rory said running her stomach "I will need more help. We are hiring a full-time nanny for Em, she will help Karson with the boys, but we want to make sure the boys do not feel left out. I want to be able to take them to school or playdates. I don't want them to think Em is taking their place. My boys are not spoiled. They pick up their toys. Sometimes they have to be told. They are boys." Rory said laughing. "Ms. Lewis, did I tell you about Will and Chris chasing Jessi around Mitchum's backyard Friday night with a frog?" Ms. Lewis smiled and shook her head. "No you didn't, I bet that was a site." "It was, Ms. Rory tried to run after them to stop them, but Ms. Cynthia told her to stop. Boys will be boys." Evelyn said. "You saw that?" Rory asked, She nodded her head. "Was looking out the kitchen window."

Rory stood up. "I am going to go to the office and get your employment package off Logan's desk, I will be right back." She said as she waddled down the hall. Ms. Lewis told Evelyn. "They both treat Ricky and Karson like they are their children. Karson drives a brand new Jeep. They both prefer to be called Rory and Logan. Even when they have company. I have gotten some looks from some of their dinner guests before because I called Rory by her name when I told her dinner was ready. Oh, one more thing. Most of the time when they have guests, they still serve the food buffet style." Evenly smiled, "You like working here?" Evelyn asked. "Yes, My husband retired and wants to travel. That is why I am pulling back to part-time."

"Evelyn, I am going to let Ms. Lewis show you around the property. The pool house and Karson's apartment are their responsibility. The maid service goes once a week. They are responsible for getting their laundry to the laundry room. Oh, Ms. Lewis, don't forget to show her where the upstairs laundry is going." Rory hands the packet to Evelyn. "Logan will be home after work. If you have any questions about the packet. I'm going to the office to work on some edits." Rory said as she went back down the hall.

"After our tour, I will make her some tea. You will get to know what they like and dislike. You are rarely treated like help, so sometimes you have to know what they want before they get up to get it themselves. Rory has asked me to do more for her the further along she gets." Ms. Lewis said as she started the tour with the kitchen.

Time got away from Rory, she heard Karson come in. She heard her talking with Evelyn and Ms. Lewis. Her tummy was growling. Em did not like to be neglected. As she was finishing up the last page, Karson stuck her head in the door. "Ms. Lewis is making you a sandwich. Do you have any preference?" Karson asked. Rory shook her head. Karson started to leave "Hey, can you bring me my sandwich and some chips? Bring your lunch back here too. I want to talk to you."

Karson brought Rory's lunch to her, as well as her own. She was pretty sure what this talk would be about. Rory took a bite of her lunch. "This is good. Em was just starting to complain when you came in." Rory said. "Listen, Karson, I have always treated you fair.'' Karson took a bite of her sandwich and nodded her head. I want you and Ricky both to feel comfortable here. But, I need you to be a little more discreet. I don't want the boys asking questions. I also want to make sure you are protected. Logan is having this same conversation with Ricky. He is telling him that there will be girls, not you, that will try to get pregnant because Ricky has a lot of money and a lot of connections." Rory said. "Ricky uses a condom and I am on the depo shot. We also use spermicide on the condom." Karson said while looking at her hand." Rory snicked, "Looks like you have it covered. No pun intended." Now Karson was laughing. "I want you to be able to talk to me about anything. Sex, school, boys. I know that I am not your mother, but I am here for you. So is Logan. Karson nodded her head.

After lunch and the talk, Karson went to study while Rory worked on the last of the edits.
