Chapter 69 Marth's Vineyard

Rory was packing for the weekend at the Vineyard when Logan called. "Hello" "Hey Ace. I'm finished with my mother. She has been given instructions. I am on my way home. When I get off the phone with you, I am calling Dad and John. I want to make sure they have your number in case of an emergency. I am turning my phone off for the weekend." "Was it that bad?" "yes" that was all that Logan would say. "Okay, I will see you when you get home.

With the help of Karson, Rory has packed her, Logan's bags, and Karson packed the boys. It is January so there is no need for shorts or bathing suits. Rory was in the kitchen packing a snack for Chris and Will when Logan got home. He entered the kitchen through the garage. He stopped at the door when he saw Rory. "Ace" he walked up to her and hugged her. Rory could tell that he was having a hard time. She just held him. After a few minutes, he looked at his watch. If I hurry, I will have time to change before we pick the boys up. We can still make the 2:00 ferry." "Sounds good. Honor called; Josh will not be able to leave until after 4:00. She and the boys are going to ride with Karson and Ricky. They are going to take my car. We are going to take Karon's jeep. There will be more room in my car for Honor and the boys. Honor must wait until 2:30 to pick Joshua up. So, they should be able to make the 6:00 ferry."

Rory and Logan pulled up to the pre-school. Rory had called earlier to check the boys out. It didn't take long for them to be on the road. Both boys were excited. Rory had a snack for them and promised if they behaved that they would stop on the way for ice cream.

They arrived 20 minutes before the next ferry left. The boys were excited. Logan promised to let them out of the car. When they parked on the ferry Logan and Rory each took the hand of the twins and let them look at the water as they sailed. It was chilly. Rory had her wool coat on and had Will wrapped up in it. Logan grabbed a blanket out of the back of the car and wrapped Chris up. Rory was smiling. She was freezing but she was smiling. This is what memories are made of.

They arrived at the house around 2:30. After unloading the car, they took inventory of the cabinets and the fridge. Rory made a list of things they would need for the weekend. Logan promised to keep the boys entertained while she went grocery shopping.

Honor and her crew arrived as they were just starting the tacos. Everyone was excited. Honor showed the boys their room. Chris, Will, and Samuel were having a ball playing with remote control cars they found. Ricky was helping them. Joshua was on his tablet. Honor and Rory were in the kitchen finishing up the supper. Logan went upstairs to lay down. He had a headache. Rory told him she would call him when supper was ready. "Honor, tell me how I can help him?" Honor looked up at Rory. "Just be there for him. I am glad you were not there to see it. When he started explaining to her how it was going to be, you could hear the struggle in his voice. He was emotional. But by the time he walked out the door, there was no emotion. When we got in the car, you could tell how hard it was on him to have to do that to our mother." "Maybe after a while, she could move back to the Manor." Honor shook her head. "No, that ship has sailed."

Josh arrived around 11:00. He ended up having to go to court on a last-minute arraignment. Logan, Honor, Rory, Ricky, and Karson were sitting around the fireplace talking. The girls had a glass of wine and Logan, and Ricky had a beer. "Well, look what I have found. Didn't expect a welcoming committee." Josh said as he entered the living room. Honor jumped up and kissed him. "Come on, have a seat, let me get you a beer." He sat down and they continued to talk. They talked about Ricky's new job at HPG. They talked about the classes that Karson will be taking this semester. They talked about the Gala that Honor was planning for the spring. They talked about the new baby that will be arriving this summer. They talked about everything but Shira and Billy's wreck.

Saturday morning, Josh, Logan, and Ricky went to the gym to play a little basketball. On the way to the Gym, Josh told Logan about his phone call last night and why he was late. "You seem to be having a good time this weekend. I really hate to bring you down, but I need you to know about the phone call I got before I left." Josh said as he looked at Logan. Logan was driving. He glanced at Josh. "It's okay." "Well, the only reason I am telling you about it now is that it is going to require a phone call from you," Josh said. He was feeling bad about this. He knew this weekend was to distract him and Honor from what was going on with Shira. "I got a call from Henry Rochin. I went to law school with him." Logan glanced at Josh with a questioning look on his face. "He is the grandson of Rich Rochin. The divorce lawyer that represents most of the rich and famous on the east coast." Logan nodded his head. He still was not sure why he would get a call from Rich's grandson. Were he and Honor getting a divorce? "He called to tell me that Shira made an appointment with him. He thought I needed a heads up. I didn't know if maybe you wanted to call Shira before she met with him. I'm not sure where she will get the money. His retainer starts out at $1500 for a consult." Logan sat and listened while he drove. He was glad they were headed to the gym. He would be able to work some of this frustration out.

Meanwhile back at the house, Honor, and Rory were sitting on the deck, wrapped up in blankets with the fire pit going. There is something about the smell of the ocean and the wind coming off the sea. Honor told Rory what Josh told her last night about Shira. She wanted Rory to be prepared. She asked Josh to wait, but he felt he needed to tell him today so he could figure out what he needs to do. Josh was sure Logan would be served with papers as soon as he got back home.
