A week later, Tommy was allowed a second visit. He had started eating again, even though it was small bites every thirty minutes. He had also been able to start sleeping for two hour stretches without nightmares.

On the second visit, Paul brought Tommy a bag of his favorite fruit and a tall bottle of water. "One at a time, baby. Don't eat them all at once."

Tommy managed to get half an apple slice down before feeling sick. He  took a drink of water and smiled weakly. He kissed Paul on the cheek, even though he felt like throwing up. They sat in the lobby holding hands and just enjoying each other's company. Finally Tommy looked at Paul and said, "I. Still. Want. To. Go. Home. " he said slowly. He was trying to form his words. "I Want To...Go home."

"I know baby. You're doing much better. The last step before you go home is to be able to rid yourself of your guilt." "I know it will take a lot of strength to do so but you have to."

Tommy found that the scariest part of healing. He was terrified to talk to anyone about his fears and insecurities. "I. Know. But I'm. Scared."

"I know you are. Please try for me and for yourself."

Looking at the floor, Tommy slowly nodded and kissed Paul again. "I will. Try."

Paul held Tommy close until he had to go. "Please try."

Tommy sat in the lobby for a few more minutes before the nurse led him back to his room. He was given access to the library to check out books.
