Tommy was coming back from dropping the girls off at Bruce's house. He and Paul were going on a weekend trip to Lake Tahoe. Paul had rented a cabin in the mountains for the two of them.
"Do you have enough luggage?" he asked Paul as he walked back in the house. "My lord!"
"What? This is only half."
"What?" "Aren't we only staying for the weekend?"
Picking up his one duffle bag, Tommy put it in the back seat and helped Paul load everything else. It took twenty minutes.
"I'll have you know that some of that is food." "I picked up snacks last night." Paul said as he slid into the driver's seat. "Ready?"
"Yes." "Should I pack more stuff?"
"What do you have?"
Tommy listed off his duffle bag contents. He was told to go grab a few more things, just in case.
Running back inside, Tommy stuffed three extra changes of clothes into a carry-on and headed back outside. Paul was finishing up a chocolate bar when Tommy opened the door. "Wow!"
Grinning, Paul handed his husband one and pulled out.
The two of them talked, laughed and sang all the way up to the cabin.
When they got to Lake Tahoe, Paul drove to the rental office to get the key. He came out and followed the path to the cabin. Tommy turned pale when he saw how close it was to the edge of the mountain. "Ooh, it's really close to the edge." he whispered.
"Are you okay with that?" asked Paul.
"I guess so." Tommy quickly looked away.
Once they were inside, Tommy was relieved to find the bedroom faced the other cabins. He closed the shutters to keep anyone from looking in. After making sure the two windows were locked and the shutters closed, he went to the living room. Paul had started a fire and was now in the kitchen.
"Ummm, what smells so delightful?" asked Tommy. He walked around locking all the windows and closing the shutters.
Paul was setting the table with paper plates and silverware, having poured wine into plastic cups. "I'm making homemade soup. It should be ready in a few minutes. I actually took it from the freezer so it just has to heat up."
"Ooh the vegetable soup I love?"
Paul nodded as Tommy popped some garlic bread into the microwave and threw together a quick salad.
