Going Home

Tommy was ready to go home about three days later. He had reluctantly agreed to a therapy session later in the week. He had been bathed, shaved and his hair brushed by Paul. "Let's go, baby. I'll follow you with the stroller if you want to hold Mady."

He handed Tommy their tiny daughter and waited for the nurse to push Tommy to the car. His husband was deathly quiet on the elevator ride down. Paul tried talking to him, but finally gave up.

Once the six of them were in the car, Paul looked at Tommy and turned his face towards him. "I want you to get help. I know you're hurting."

Silence filled the car on the ride home. Paul could hear Mady fussing as they pulled into the driveway. "Tom? Please say something."

"Therapy isn't going to help but I'll go because you want me too."

Paul already knew this would be rough until Tommy finally loved himself. He just hoped their marriage would survive.
