Gene stayed in the hospital with Eric for a week. They talked their problems over and started trying to work things out. Eric was still sore when he went home but he wrapped his ribs and tried to take things easy.
Gene explained to the kids that they would have to be careful with Eric for a few more days but they could still sit in his lap and cuddle. Draco immediately started crying because he thought he had caused the hurt. Eric sat down and had Gene put him in his lap. "Draco, it's not your fault, sweetheart. I hurt myself when I fell and I'm just sore. Come here and I'll read you a story."
Draco sucked his thumb while Eric read to him. After Draco fell asleep, Gene put him to bed while Delilah got her story. It was then Jason's turn and then Jenny's. After the last one was asleep, Eric asked Gene if he wanted a story.
Rolling his eyes, Gene started laughing and told Eric he'd read him one instead. Eric laid back on the bed while Gene really read him a story. Gene's deep voice soon lulled Eric to sleep. This made Gene laugh as he covered his husband up and went to sleep on the couch.
In the middle of the night, Draco wandered into Eric's room and climbed in bed with him. "Da! 'ake up!"
Eric opened his eyes to see Draco staring at him. "Dra, what's wrong?"
"Dere a bear in de libing room! It sc'wy!"
"That's just your dad. he snores like a bear. Come here." Eric laughed.
Eric tucked Draco in beside him and waited until the little boy fell asleep again. He then drifted back to sleep. He was still asleep when Gene brought breakfast in the next morning. "There you are Dra!"
"Dere was a bear in de libing room 'ast night!"
"A bear?"
"Da say it was you." "You 'ake loud noise!"
Gene sat the food tray down and took Draco to the kitchen to eat. He promised him there were no bears in the house and yes, he did snore loud.
When Eric woke up, he found breakfast waiting.
