While Tommy and Paul slept, Pat came by to see if Tommy wanted to go out to dinner. He had been worried about his friend since he hadn't heard from him lately. He knocked on the door and waited. Finally Paul opened it, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. "Hey Pat. Come on in. Tommy's asleep."
"Is he holding up okay?"
"No. Come on in and I'll get you up to date."
Paul and Pat talked for about an hour. Pat headed up to see if Tommy was awake. He peeked in to find Tommy still sleeping. Backing out, he headed back to the kitchen. "Paul, would it be okay if I take him to Cannon Beach for awhile? I think that might help."
"Sure, I can let him know when he wakes up that you'll be back." Paul waited until Pat left to go back upstairs. Tommy was awake this time. "Baby, Pat came by. He wants to take you to Cannon Beach for awhile. Do you think you'd like that?"
"I guess. It doesn't really matter." said Tommy, voice flat. "Whatever you think is best."
Paul just held his husband close. He stroked his hair and back. "You know I love you. I hate seeing you hurt so much." "Let's just lay here."
Tommy kept his arms wrapped around Paul. He wanted to be happy again. "Paul? I want you to stay with me. Please don't let me go. I feel safe like this."
"Let's go shower together and come right back to bed. I'll hold you all night if that's what it takes."
The two of them showered together and then got right back into bed. Paul kept his arms wrapped around Tommy the whole time.
