As Gene drove, Eric tried to sleep but he couldn't. "Geneie, I really feel like hell. Could we please pull over again? NOW!" Gene barely had time to roll the window down before puke went everywhere.

Eric  threw up for about ten minutes straight. He finally quit, only to pass out in Gene's lap. Gene called Paul to meet him at the nearest hospital to get the kids and take them so he could stay with Eric.

"I'll be there in about ten."

Gene got the kids out and told them to hang on to his belt loops while he carried Eric inside. Delilah held on to the twins' hands as Jason held on to Gene. They followed Gene in and sat in chairs while Eric was held by Gene.

When Paul walked in, Gene handed him the keys to get into the SUV  so the kids could get their things. "I'll call you and let you know what's going on."

"Alright. "

Not long after Paul left, Gene was able to take Eric back. His husband was pale as he was hooked up to the I.V. "Eric, baby. You're in the hospital now. I'm here."

Eric didn't respond to Gene's voice or his touch. Immediately fearing the worst, Gene called Paul in tears. "P-P-Paul, I-I-I think Eric's-----"

"What Gene???!!! Talk to me!"

"I can't get him to respond. I think he's ------dead! "

Gene hung up and gripped Eric's hand tightly. "Eric! Eric Doyle!" "Wake up baby!"

It seemed like several hours before the doctor came in. "Mr. Simmons, please come with me."

Gene had been crying non-stop. His face was splotchy and his eyes were nearly swollen shut. He asked for a few minutes to pull himself together before following.

Once seated in the doctor's office, Gene braced himself for the news. "Is-is-is Eric dead?"

"No, he's in distress because his blood pressure is too high. We have him stabilized right now. It will be about two weeks or so before we can decide to send him home or keep him here until he reaches three months. Once he's in his second trimester, everything should go better." "I will have him transferred to the maternity ward where it's more private and quieter."

Gene agreed and asked if he could go ahead and bring their things up. "I will be staying as much as possible. We do have children together so I'll need to go home and check on them."

The doctor gave Gene permission to have someone else in the room if he was gone. Gene ran to get their bags and hurry back. He manage to call Paul at one point and fill him in. "I'm going to stay so could you and Tommy keep the kids?"

"Of course. Draco is over joyed to see his siblings. Take care of both of you and we'll see you soon."

Gene hung up their clothes and headed to take a quick shower. He was exhausted but was determined to stay awake.
