The cookout was scheduled to start at six. Paul and Tommy already had everything ready so they were in the pool with the girls. Gene was with Draco and Delilah while Jenny and Jason were playing in the sandbox. Bruce was talking to one of the builders about adding a deck while Eric was nowhere to be found.

Tommy, who had gotten out of the pool to go inside, happened to hear noises coming from the laundry room. he knew immediately where Eric was. Backing quietly away, he quickly went to the kitchen to retrieve the drinks. Just before he headed back outside, he saw a very red faced Eric emerge from around the corner. He was alone so Tommy started to have second thoughts. Unfortunately, Eric caught him looking and beckoned him over.

Tommy looked at his best friend and asked one question, "Did you and Ricki-----?"

Eric looked down at the floor and stayed quiet. Finally he whispered ,"I, um, yeah. Please don't say a word." He bolted out of the house before Tommy could reply.

"Tommy? Baby?" called Paul, "Everything okay?"

"Yes. Eric and I were just getting the drinks ready. Be out in a few."

At six, Paul started the food. He knew Tommy was hiding something from him but he knew he would come clean later. Gene, on the other hand, already was in Eric's face. Through gritted teeth, he told Eric he wanted to speak to him in the house. Eric defiantly told him to screw himself and walked away. Seconds later, Gene politely excused himself and followed.

"YOU SCREWED AROUND ON ME! IN MY BEST FRIEND'S HOUSE AND YOU HAVE THE NERVE TO TELL ME TO SCREW MYSELF!!!! WELL, GO PACK YOUR SHIT AND GET OUT OF MY DAMNED HOUSE! I'M KEEPING THE KIDS, YOU CHEATING TWO-TIMER!!!"

Everyone grew silent as Eric slapped Gene hard and walked off. Tommy went to follow but Paul shook his head no and requested that Tommy and Bruce gather up all the kids and take them to the table.

The cookout was awkwardly silent and very uncomfortable.
