38: Death Becomes Her

Izumi and Aster were sitting on a park bench after just leaving the flower shop. 

"I hope Emra isn't too mad about all this." 

"I'm sure she'll calm down once Lily talks to her." Aster said.

"And why did Lily say that Emra isn't my real cousin?" 

"Cause she isn't. Emra's an immortal being." Izumi froze. 

"She- She's what?" 

"She's immortal, she's known as the Emerald Dragon in the Spirit Realm. I've seen her in action and she's pretty scary." Aster said. 

"Huh- I feel like I really don't know Emra all that well now that I know this much..." 

"I wanted to ask, but did you feel uncomfortable when you found out you were turned into a girl?" Aster asked.

"Huh? Oh yeah... that first day was a nightmare..." Izumi sighed. 

"Really? How bad was it?" 

"Well... waking up to notice that my chest was swollen and I had really long hair, that was something I wasn't expecting. And when I asked my mom what happened to me, my mom just told me I was going through a growth spurt... not what I was expecting to hear." 

"Sounds to me like Lily erased your mom's memories of you being a boy, huh?" 

"Yup. Once I did finally accept that I was now a girl... I still had a lot to learn. So I asked my mom to help me buy new clothes that would fit, and then... I started experiencing things that girls go through." Izumi mumbled.

"Let me guess... your first time having the 'once a month' deal scared you?" 

"Very. And I never knew how much girls get cramps from them either. But yeah, most of the time I don't dress up girly since it feels weird to me. And after 7 years of being a girl, I still can't believe this happened to me." Izumi muttered. 

"Oh yeah, when you told me the reason behind why you were going to commit suicide... I was surprised. I didn't expect your old friend to really say that to you." Aster said.

"You mean Kacchan? Yeah... he was known for speaking his mind, and was considered a loud mouth hothead." Izumi said. 

'Makes sense when I did talk to Katsuki.' Aster thought. 

"Hah- was not expecting to actually meet Lily again after all these years, I honestly thought I'd never meet her again-" Izumi said.

Izumi thought about and realized something about Lily. 

"Wait a second... if Lily is the one who did this to me... then that means... YOU WORK FOR HER!?!?!?" 

"Yeah... I figured you'd ask me that." 

"Is that why you didn't tell me anything?" 

"Well that and I didn't know if it really was Lily that did this to you. I didn't work for her when she did this to you, I started working for her 2 years ago." Aster said. 

"So... you know she's a Grim Reaper?" 

"Mn. I'm her assistant." Izumi squinted her eyes at him, not sure what he meant. 

"What... does that mean?" 

"Hah- each and every Grim Reaper is known for having an assistant. All of the assistants are spirits... except for me, since I'm human. But because I was born and raised seeing, hearing and speaking to spirits, I got in a little mishap a couple years ago and was forced to become Lily's assistant." Aster said.
