70: Poison

Note: This chapter takes a dark turn, sorry, but it has to for this story! 

Izumi and Katsuki were walking home, and though it was still light outside, there were barely any people outside. 

"That was nice wasn't it, Kacchan?" 

"What?" 

"Don't play dumb, Kacchan, I'm sure you were relieved just seeing your mom. I do think it's weird that your dad had to go to work today for Christmas, but I'm sure we can see him for New Years." Izumi said. 

Izumi looked up at Katsuki and he seemed to be in deep thought. 

"Hm? Kacchan?" 

'That doesn't make any sense why the old geezer had to work today when no one else is working today. Are they short staffed or something? Hm-" 

He felt something grab his hand and he looked down to see Izumi grabbing his hand.

"What the- Deku-" 

"I figured since we're dating, we can hold hands now." Izumi said happily, he blushed. 

"You- that was unexpected." 

"Everything you do towards me is unexpected, Kacchan." Izumi said and saw his face turn to worry again. 

"Ah- Kacchan, are you worried about your dad?" 

"Why wouldn't I be? It just doesn't make sense for him to work on a holiday." Katsuki said. 

"I know, but I'm sure he's on his way from work right now. I can ask my mom for your mom's phone number to call her to see if he got home later. I think we should get you a phone for Christmas, how does that sound?"

And before Katsuki could answer, he was distracted by a smell that hit his nose. He stopped in his tracks and started sniffing the air to figure out what he was smelling. 

"Hm? Kacchan, is something wrong?" 

"I smell something." 

"Is it bad?" 

"I don't know, it smells... like- it's coming from this way." he said and pulled the greenette to follow. 

"Do you think it's a member of the League?" 

"No, I would recognize that smell right away if it was one of 'em, but it's not." Katsuki said and he kept sniffing the air.

The second they turned the corner to be in a dark alleyway, they turned their heads and froze to see a man lying against the wall. Blood was coming from his mouth and his eyes looked bloodshot. 

They looked at the man closer and Katsuki stopped in his tracks and his body went cold. 

"No- that's-" 

Izumi looked at the man again and recognized him right away after seeing Katsuki's reaction. 

"Ah- Mr. Bakugo!"

Izumi let go of Katsuki's hand and ran up to the man to try and examine what happened. 

"Oh no, how did this happen? Mr. Bakugo, can you hear me?" Izumi said, trying to shake him. And instead of him responding, he kept coughing up blood instead.
