48: Denial

After a few days since the incident with Stain, Katsuki felt his body start to wake up on it's own. His eyes felt heavy, but his body felt even heavier as he could still remember how both areas he was stabbed in felt. 

He slowly reached his arms out and could move his fingers back and forth. 

"I'm... human..." he mumbled. 

And after a few seconds, he realized what he just said and jumped up from the bed to sit up. 

"HOLY SHIT AM I REALLY-" 

"Well good morning, Mister Bakugo." 

Katsuki looked up to see Phoenix at the door and entered the room. 

"I- WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO ME?!?!" Katsuki yelled.

"Well it seems like you're wide awake." 

Katsuki turned his head to see Iris, literally sitting on the windowsill. 

"What the-" 

"And what have I told you, no foxes allowed." Phoenix said, glaring at Iris. 

"Oh fine..." Iris looked up and her fox ears disappeared and then her fluffy tail disappeared too. 

"No fox here." Iris said. 

"Is this... real?" 

"Well if it wasn't, you wouldn't be in pain, and decided to jump in front of Izumi like that." Iris said. Katsuki remembered how everything happened, he jumped in front of Izumi and took the blow from Stain, but he didn't remember turning back into a human.

"But how did I-" 

"I know I told you to keep an eye on her, but I didn't mean for you to literally jump in front and do something like this." Phoenix said, examining Katsuki's injuries. 

"But I don't know how I did that, and I can't remember anything that happened after that." Katsuki said, rubbing his head. 

"Well, you did pass out after you took the blow, so you didn't miss much." Iris said. 

"Wait- what happened to that guy?" Katsuki asked. 

"Oh- Izumi's cousin took care of that, you were taken to the hospital soon after." Iris said. 

"And... What about Deku?" 

"She's fine, she's been resting at home." Iris said. Katsuki felt some relief, but felt strikes of pain hit his shoulder and lower back.

"How long have I been out?" 

"A few days, I'm surprised you survived after how much blood you lost. Well now that everything has been checked, I will say that you have to stay here for another day, and then you will be discharged. It seems the fox has a few things to say, and I need to leave. Don't do anything funny or stupid while you're here." Phoenix said, glaring at Iris again. 

"Relax, it's nothing of the sort." Iris said. 

Phoenix sighed and left the hospital room leaving an awkward silence behind.

"So, how does it feel to be human again?" Iris asked. 

"It's not the first time I've changed back into a human, but... this time feels different." Katsuki said. 

"Hmm, could it be because you weren't wearing that collar like usual?" Iris suggested. Katsuki reached his hands over his neck and didn't feel a collar like he'd usually feel when he turned into a human.
