Many people don't know that the human eye has a blind spot in its field of vision. There's a part of the world that we are literally blind to. The problem is, sometimes our blind spots shield us from things that really shouldn't be ignored. And sometimes our blind spots keep our lives bright and shiny.

When Mallory Shepherd and Alex Karev walked into the hospital together, they went to head straight to the locker room. But the second they walked through the door, Callie Torres pulled them off to the side, looking panicked beyond words.

"What's wrong?" Mallory asked, and Callie only threw her arms up in response. "What? I can read your face, but I can't read your mind."

"George's dad was admitted last night."

"Woah," Alex's eyes went wide as he questioned. "What happened?"

"He passed out and fractured his clavicle. He should be fine, but still," Callie told them before she asked. "Do you think this is my fault?"

Mallory raised a brow as she stared at her friend. "How on earth could it possibly be your fault? It sounds like it was an accident."

"No, this is karma," Callie explained as she put her face in her hands. "I slept with Mark Sloan, and now George's dad is in the hospital."

Alex raised a brow as he said. "Way to make it about yourself."

"Thanks," Callie replied in a sarcastic tone, rolling her eyes. "Find me later?"

"Yeah, yeah," Mallory told her as she turned back to Alex. "Seems like we're gonna have ourselves a busy day."

As they made their way into the locker room, Meredith Grey was giving a speech to the rest of the interns. "Today is the day, people. Today is the day when dark and twisty Meredith disappears forever. And bright and shiny, Meredith takes her place. You're probably not going to want to be friends with me anymore, cause the sheer intensity of my happiness will make your teeth hurt. That's okay 'cause life is good. Life is good. What's going on?"

She turned, and everyone had gathered around George, who had a chart in his hand. Mallory looked over as she told her. "Someone's life isn't as good as yours."

Izzie turned around as she explained to Meredith, trying to keep her voice quiet. "George's dad was admitted last night."

"He's fine—"

"I talked to Callie, she seemed optimistic, which is a good thing," Mallory added, giving George a reassuring smile. "If she thinks it'll be fine, it probably will be."
