There's a reason surgeons learned to wield scalpels. We like to pretend we're hard, cold scientists. We like to pretend we're fearless.

For the Halloween season, Mallory Shepherd went all out with decorations for her apartment. She had spooky decorations in every corner with stuff for pumpkin carving on her kitchen table, prepared for when Lexie Grey, Louis Carmichael, and Callie Torres got there.

Alex Karev helped her set everything up, as he was putting out the tools of pumpkin carving, he shook his head. "I don't know why you're inviting an intern over. I mean, Louis would be one thing cause he's your friend—"

"Except that Lexie is my friend, too," Mallory added with a smile. "And you're going to be nice to her."

"But she's Mers's sister—"

"Exactly, and Meredith can't even be nice to her," Mallory insisted with narrowed eyes. "So we have to be extra nice to make up for that."

He let out a groan as he insisted. "She's an intern, Mal."

"And she's my new friend. I happen to find her very nice and I think she's good company," Mallory told him with a shrug. "The only person's opinion I'm worried about is Meredith's. You don't think she'll be mad, do you?"

"Seeing how much she likes her," Alex debated the topic before declaring. "I'd say she'll be pissed."

"Yeah, I figured."

Louis Carmichael was the first to arrive, with two wine bottles in his hands. He glanced around, expecting everyone else to already be there, and said. "Wow, I'm the first one here? What a bummer."

"Ooh, wine," Mallory grabbed the bottle from his hand as she inspected it. "Is this the good stuff?"

"Only the best for you, Shep," Louis confirmed with a nod. "You'll never meet anyone who can turn down a $200 bottle of wine."

Alex's eyes went wide as he asked. "You spent that much on a bottle of wine?"

The Carmichael man shrugged his shoulders while he smirked. "Well, for each of these bottles. I wanted to make sure we'd have enough. Plus, I wanted to make a good impression on your friends."

"Uh, yeah," Alex nodded along, inspecting the bottle himself. "I'd say this'll leave a good impression."

Mallory grabbed a corkscrew for the bottle, and as she opened the wine, she smelled the scent for only a second before she ran off to the bathroom to be sick. While Louis stood at the table, his brows furrowing as he watched.
