When Mallory Shepherd woke up, a bad feeling settled in her stomach. She wasn't sure if it was because of George's dad being dead or what he had said to her, but a bad feeling sank deep in her stomach. The same one she had felt on the day the bomb exploded in the hospital. It made Mallory want to stay in bed and never get out of it.

As Alex Karev walked back into the bedroom, with two cups of coffee in hand, he furrowed his brows at the sight of Mallory still in bed. He walked over, sitting down on the edge of their shared bed.

"What're you doing?" he whispered, still feeling guilty over the argument they had. "Are you feeling okay?"

"I feel fine," she dismissed him, pulling the blanket over her head as she mumbled. "I'm not getting out of bed."

He let out a deep breath, pulling the blanket down to look into her eyes. "Mal, if you feel fine, we have to go to work. You should be excited for today, we're gonna do the triage exercises, and we both know that you don't want to miss it. So, you have to get out of bed."

"I have a bad feeling, Alex."

"Yeah, I'm sure that you do," replied Alex, going over to her closet to pick clothes out. "You have a bad feeling about every other day. Look, is this about yesterday?"

Mallory went silent at his words, not even remembering standing on the roof the day before; she just remembered what it looked like to look down. "No, that was nothing. This, this is different, it's serious."

"I'm serious, Mallory, I will carry you to your car and drive you to work if you don't get out of bed," he told her sternly, pulling a shirt of his own from the closet to put on. "I'm not calling Addison or Mark this time. We're going to work."

"But, we could stay in the apartment all day," she sprawled herself across the bed, raising her eyes suggestively. "Just the two of us? I'll let you do whatever you want."

Alex rolled his eyes playfully, placing a kiss on her lips before gathering the other items she needed. The two interns didn't say much about what they were doing, even after months of keeping it a secret. They just enjoyed the ability to be in a relationship without any titles or requirements. But Mallory Shepherd knew before long, she would fall completely for her best friend.

He took her hands, sitting her up straight on her bed. "As much as I like your idea, Bailey would have our heads. And Mark would have my life. We're surgeons, we need to go to the hospital."

"I don't know," she said to herself, staring up at her swirling ceiling fan. "Do you ever just feel like it's all worth nothing?"

"What?"
