When Mallory Shepherd arrived at the hospital, Alex Karev was already there, having the early shift. She still had Carter in his car seat when she found Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang talking on the hospital catwalk.
"Hey," Meredith turned to Cristina as she questioned. "Is it true that you helped Teddy and Mark deliver Little Sloan's baby?"
"I heard the paramedics coming in last night," Mallory nodded along. "That's crazy that you were able to help."
"Yeah," Cristina mumbled back. "Not now."
Her best friend's brows furrowed at her dismissive tone as she asked. "What's wrong with you?"
The two friends noticed that Cristina's attention was focused on Derek Shepherd's office, which they had a clear view of. Inside, Derek was talking to a man dressed in a suit, whom Cristina narrowed her eyes at.
"That," Cristina pointed her finger at the office. "Tom Evans is in with your husband and your brother."
"Tom Evans?" Mallory repeated with wide eyes. "As in the brilliant cardio surgeon from Baylor?"
"That's Tom Evans?" Meredith questioned next, narrowing her eyes in the direction of the office in an attempt to get a better look. "He seems a lot younger than I would've thought."
"Please try and be cool," Cristina insisted, eager to make a good impression. "That includes you, too, Evil Spawn Junior."
Teddy Altman walked over to join them next. When she approached them, she stopped to smile at Carter. "Morning, guys. Morning, little guy. Aren't you the happiest thing this morning?"
"He really is," Mallory replied, noticing her baby's smile. "He must sense Cristina's good mood."
However, Teddy didn't seem to understand what that meant. Cristina simply pointed at the office, not even glancing in Teddy's direction as she answered. "He's in with Shepherd right now."
"Who?"
"Tom Evans."
All Teddy could do was blink her eyes a few times before she managed to ask. "Tom Evans is here?"
