It was early in the morning when Miranda Bailey gathered all of her interns to prepare for rounds. They followed her through the hallways, following behind while they conversed amongst themselves.
Meredith started by asking Cristina. "So, how's Burke doing?"
"I don't know."
George eyed her before scoffing under his breath. "She doesn't know."
"He just had surgery yesterday," Alex started with furrowed brows, trying to understand what they meant. "And you don't know how he's doing?"
"Well," Mallory suggested with raised brows. "That just means—"
With a nod, Meredith only confirmed as she concluded. "They're not speaking."
Izzie turned to them next, seeming confused herself as she asked. "I thought they made up."
"They did," Meredith replied before she looked back at her best friend. "Sort of?"
"But she's still not speaking to him?" Mallory questioned, nodding to herself as she chuckled. "That's very Cristina of you."
"He's not speaking to me."
"They're not speaking to each other."
Cristina rolled her eyes in response, but Izzie Stevens still seemed confused by the mess of it all while Cristina leaned in towards her best friend and whispered. "Did you ask Derek about Burke's hand?"
"I don't want to get in the middle of it. Derek and I are happy," Meredith responded with a shrug. "Can we just keep it that way for a while?"
"You know," Izzie suggested next. "You could always just swallow your pride and ask him yourself."
Alex let out a laugh as he said. "Her gut's not big enough for that."
The first patient they went to see was Harold O'Malley. Inside his room, there was a party going on with all the different members of the O'Malley family. All of his brothers were there, some of his cousins, and some aunts and uncles.
"O'Malley!"
Harold shushed the family and motioned for them to find somewhere to sit. "Quiet down."
Louise smiled at the doctors as she waved. "Good morning, everybody."
"Good morning," Richard Webber replied with a smile. "Who's presenting?"
"Yeah, George!"
"Harold O'Malley, 63. Status post aortic valve replacement. Morning chest x-rays showed no atelectasis after aggressive CPT for the last two days. Scheduled for a transhiatal esophagectomy tomorrow at 9," George presented, and everyone stared at him, waiting for more. "That's it."
