We like to think that we are rational beings...
Over the next few days, Lexie Grey and George O'Malley moved into an apartment of their own. Mallory Shepherd and Louis Carmichael stopped over in the morning, desperate to check it out for themselves. When they knocked on the door, they could hear faint arguing inside.
"Do you think they're already arguing like a married couple?" Louis questioned as they stood on their doorstep. "Being roommates does that to people—"
"It does not—"
"Do you remember when you and Sylvia roomed together your first year at Columbia?" Louis suggested, which made Mallory narrow her eyes. "We all thought that mess would never end. You guys always fought."
"She never picked up after herself, and she downright refused to do the dishes—" Mallory started to rant, before she realized that he was right. "Okay, fine. Maybe you make a good point."
Humane, conscientious, civilized, and thoughtful.
When George O'Malley answered the door, he looked visibly stressed. His head dropped while he muttered. "Great. It's you guys."
"Jesus, George," Mallory's eyes went wide. "It looks like you haven't slept. Bad night?"
"Bad life," George corrected her with a roll of his eyes. "You don't look too good yourself. Bad morning?"
"I was just saying that—"
Mallory turned and smacked Louis on the arm while she pointed her finger in their direction. "Shut up, both of you. I wanna see your new apartment."
Even though George was hesitant to let them in, he opened the door and let them into his new apartment. They both were surprised to see there was hardly any furniture or any paint on the walls. Louis started looking around, for a second, thinking he was being punked.
But when things fall apart, even just a little, it becomes clear. We're no better than animals.
"Um, this is," Louis's brows furrowed as he glanced around. "It's very, um, comfortable?"
But George could tell by the sound of his voice that Louis was trying his best to find the nicest words to say. "You think?"
Suddenly, a cockroach scurried across the floor, making Mallory jump onto Louis's back while she screamed. "What the hell is that?"
