The second that the sun came up in the morning, Carter Karev was up with it, which also had Mallory Shepherd up with him. She brewed coffee in the kitchen while she got the bottle ready, already attempting to settle him once. But his continued cries eventually woke Alex Karev as well.
When he walked into the kitchen, Alex groaned. "Doesn't he know that we're better parents when we're well rested?"
"He knows," Mallory answered as she glanced down at Carter. "He just doesn't care."
"Hey, buddy. You're just starving, aren't you?" Alex spoke to Carter as he took him from Mallory, so that she could get the bottle ready quicker. "So, why did Callie end up coming over here close to midnight last night?"
Psychologists believe that every aspect of our lives, all our thought processes and behavior patterns, are the direct result of our relationship to our parents.
"Well, I got stuck in surgery, so she waited for me to get home," Mallory let out a yawn as she replied. "She was so upset that she started talking in Spanish. They've decided to ignore the whole difference in opinions on not wanting kids. I give it a week before Callie explodes."
"I mean, can you blame Arizona, though?" Alex shrugged his shoulders in response. "She works on sick kids for a living."
"But look at him," Mallory smiled at their son in his arms. "Yes, you are the cutest baby in the whole world. Maybe I'm just biased."
All Alex could do was chuckle as he handed Carter back to Mallory that way she could give him the bottle, and he replied. "You're not biased, our son is the cutest baby in the world. I'm gonna shower quick before we leave."
"Okay, I'll get Carter ready for daycare," Mallory told him as she bounced their son. "We'll get you fed and then pick out a cute outfit that your Aunt Holly sent you."
Once Alex got into the shower and Mallory had the bottle completely ready, she paced around the hospital, feeding Carter while she spoke to him in a baby voice. Until she was interrupted by a polite knock on the door.
She opened the door to see a man who looked to be in his early 20's, standing with his hands in his front pockets. The second that he looked up to see Mallory with Carter in her arms, his eyes went wide.
"I am so sorry," the man was quick to speak up. "I did not mean to interrupt what you were doing. It is very obvious that I'm in the wrong place."
"It's okay, don't worry about it," Mallory was friendly with her reply. "It's easy to get lost in this place. Who are you looking for?"
