In life, only one thing is certain, apart from death and taxes, no matter how hard you try, no matter how good your intentions, you are going to make mistakes.
Outside of Seattle Grace Hospital, Mallory Shepherd sat in her car next to Alex Karev. They had been there for a minute already, but Mallory made no move to grab her things or to turn off the car; she only stared into the building.
As Alex reached to open his door, Mallory grabbed his arm and told him. "Wait. Wait just a minute before we go inside."
"Why?"
"Because I need to enjoy at least one minute of this peaceful day," Mallory explained with a shake of her head. "Because when we go inside, everything is going to be a mess."
"Yeah, you might be right about that," Alex shrugged in response. "Have you talked to Callie since George told her?"
Mallory nodded slowly as she let out a sigh. "She called me last night. She was upset, and of course, she is; she has every reason to be. I just hope she'll be okay when she sees Izzie, even though Izzie deserves to have her ass kicked."
"Here, I'll be you for a change," Alex insisted with a smile. "Everything's gonna be fine, Mal. They'll move past it."
You're going to hurt people. You're going to get hurt. And if you ever want to recover...
There was a knock on the driver's side window, and Mallory looked over to see Louis Carmichael standing there with a smile. She rolled down the window, and he immediately questioned. "You avoiding George and Callie?"
"Don't talk about it out loud, moron," Mallory snapped as she rolled her eyes. "We are going to have a good, normal day. You are gonna be down in the pit. I need a day free of interns."
There's really only one thing you can say.
With Louis and Alex at her side, Mallory walked into the hospital with a hopeful expression, hopeful that the day would go by smoothly. When they walked into the lobby, they found Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang talking.
"Oh great," Cristina groaned as they walked up. "I'm stuck in the pit, protecting smack heads and gang bangers with my idiot interns while you're getting McDreamied in the elevator?"
Louis's brows furrowed as he asked. "What does McDreamied mean?"
"Really?" Meredith raised a brow in response. "Smack heads and gang bangers at Seattle Grace?"
