Mallory Shepherd and Alex Karev were sleeping peacefully in their apartment when Mallory's phone started to ring in the middle of the night. The noise only woke up Mallory, who was confused to hear her phone buzzing at such an early hour.

Surgeons are all messed up.

We're butchers, messed-up, knife-happy butchers.

When she glanced at the screen, she saw that it was Callie Torres calling her, which only confused her further. The second that Mallory answered the phone, she could hear commotion in the background.

"You're at home, right?" Callie asked, her voice hardly above a whisper. "Please tell me that you're at home."

"Of course I'm at home, it's the middle of the night," Mallory replied with furrowed brows. "And what's with the whispering?"

"Um," Callie struggled to answer. "Something, something happened—"

"What do you mean, something happened?" Mallory questioned, sitting up in her bed. "Something bad? Do I need to get dressed and come down there?"

She could hear Callie pacing back and forth as she blurted. "No, no. They don't even know I'm talking to you. Speaking of, you cannot tell anyone about what I'm going to tell you. I'm just, I'm really shaken up, and I didn't know who else to call."

"Of course, I'm sworn to secrecy," Mallory insisted before she asked again. "What the hell happened?"

"Owen, I don't know how. I woke up to this weird noise, and he was on top of her, choking her," Callie explained, still freaked out by what she witnessed. "He, he wouldn't get off, and Cristina kept trying to break free, but he wouldn't let go."

The second Callie revealed what happened, Mallory got up out of bed, now fully awake. The commotion caused Alex to stir awake, confused about what was going on and why his fiancée was on the phone.

"He tried to what?"

With furrowed brows, Alex asked. "What's going on?"

"Nothing," Mallory answered, waving her hand as she started to pace. "Where is she now? Is she still in the apartment?"

"Yeah, she locked herself in the bathroom," Callie told her in a defeated tone. "I've tried to get her to let me in, but she won't even say anything."
