The text message from hours ago went unanswered, not even a reply acknowledging that he got back to the hospital. Alex Karev paced the hallway of Seattle Grace Hospital, calling Mallory's phone over and over again. Almost praying that she would pick up her phone.
"Hey, Mal, it's me again. Look, I know you're probably just fine, but could you please just send me a text? Thanks, bye."
"Are you still trying to call her?"
Alex practically jumped at the sound of Addison Montgomery's voice. She stood behind him with a curious expression on her face. If you asked Mallory, all her life, she said that Addison always looked like she knew everything.
"Doctor Montgomery," he awkwardly greeted, putting his phone away. "Trying to call who?"
"Do you think I'm stupid, Karev?" she only questioned in reply, raising her eyebrows. "Listen, I know you and Mallory have some sort of thing going on. And I assume you're hiding it from Derek and Mark. But Mal's still at the scene.
He nodded slowly before speaking up again. "I sent her a text like we said we would when we got to the hospital. And she never even responded."
"Karev, she's probably doing fine."
"I know you say that, but Mallory has you, Sloan, and Shepherd all fooled," insisted Alex, running his hand through his hair in frustration. "This morning, she started talking about how death was peaceful and welcoming. And kept asking me why everyone was against it."
Addison Montgomery only blinked her eyes a few times, almost completely unsure of how to respond. She hadn't heard Mallory talking like that since Griffin attacked her in New York, but since then, she seemed like she was doing okay.
"Has she been talking to Katie?"
He shrugged his shoulders, unsure of the answer. "I asked her the same question, but she avoided it."
"We can handle this at a different time," Addison dismissed it, walking into the patient's room. "Mallory always puts her work first, we both know that. She probably stuck around to help as many people as she could."
"You're right, I just need to call her one more time--"
"Karev."
