I believe in heaven. I also believe in hell. I've never seen either, but I believe they exist. They have to exist.

Because without a heaven...

Without a hell...

We're all just headed for limbo.

The next morning, Mallory Shepherd joined Callie Torres and Lexie Grey in the cafeteria. Over the last few days, none of them had left the hospital between the different cases that had kept them occupied.

Alex Karev was off somewhere else, keeping himself busy with the Jackson Prescott case. Which, Mallory was thankful for. Since her mother had left Seattle, Mallory had noticed her boyfriend start to act differently, and she wasn't sure what it meant.

"He's just been acting different, okay?" Mallory explained to her friends. "And it's a different that I don't recognize."

With furrowed brows, Callie asked. "What do you mean by different?"

"Yeah," Lexie nodded along, looking intrigued by the subject. "Like, is it a different that you think you should be worried about?"

"I don't know," Mallory answered with a shrug. "He just hasn't been himself. Now I know how he feels when I do it to him. And when I tried to ask if he was okay, he just changed the subject completely."

Lexie nodded along, listening eagerly to every word that her friend said before she agreed. "That is weird. What do you think it is?"

"I can't even think of a possibility," Mallory admitted with a shake of her head. "But we promised to start being more honest with each other, and he's lying to me. How am I supposed to feel about that?"

"I don't know, Mal." Callie didn't look convinced of anything, keeping a straight face as she deflected. "I think you're looking too far into it—"

"How about I keep an eye on him for you?" Lexie offered with a smile. "That way we can see if he really is hiding something."

Mallory looked intrigued by her suggestion, but Callie was quick to shake her head, shutting the idea down. She looked at her best friend as she insisted. "Mallory, this is Alex we're talking about. Everything is probably fine—"

"Probably or is?" Mallory questioned in reply. "Because those are two different things to me."

Suddenly, Lexie narrowed her eyes at Callie, shifting her attention to her as she observed. "You know, you're acting weird, too."
