After Callie Torres left the apartment the next morning, Mallory Shepherd had lost the battle against her mind. No matter how much anyone told her that it wasn't her fault, she felt the immense guilt over the results of the miscarriage and that Alex Karev wasn't there, even if she was the one who told him to leave.

Mallory Shepherd sat in her living room, she sat against her couch, already halfway through her first bottle of tequila. She watched old home videos on her television, videos from when she was younger, when everything was simple.

No matter how hard she tried to forget, tried to make what happened disappear, it wouldn't go away. The fights with Alex Karev, all because she couldn't tell him from the start, and that was all she could think about.

When Meredith Grey arrived at the apartment building, she walked through the hallway. She went to check on Mallory at Derek's request after she refused to answer his calls. Meredith wondered what had happened between them, especially after Alex Karev arrived at her house the night before, but he refused to tell her anything.

Meredith went to open the door, like she always did, but it was locked. She called out through the door. "Mallory? Hey, it's Meredith. Derek just got a little worried because you weren't answering your phone—"

"Go away!"

"Come on, Mal," Meredith said as she continued to knock on the door. "I know something's going on, but Alex won't say anything. Would you just let me in?"

"I'm not talking to you or anyone else!" Mallory shouted back, which wasn't something Meredith was used to. "Stop wasting your own time and go away!"

The Grey woman could hear Mallory chuck something at the door, insistent that she go away. She sighed as she nodded. "Fine, I'm leaving. But I'm coming back later to check on you. And I'm telling Derek that you wouldn't answer your door, so I'm hoping he gives me his key!"

As Meredith walked away, still feeling a pit in her stomach, she knew that something wasn't right. She dialed Alex's number into her phone, and he answered on the second ring. "Hello?"

"What the hell did you do?" Meredith instantly snapped. "Derek just sent me to Mallory's, and she has herself barricaded inside, and she won't answer the door."

"She has the door locked?" Alex questioned back, and she could hear him sigh. "Did she say anything?"

"Yeah, she told me to stop wasting my time and go away."

Alex paused, not even knowing how bad the situation had gotten, as he insisted. "I'll call her, okay? Plus, I'm stopping in after my shift, I'll make everything right."
