We all go through life like bulls in a china shop.
Early in the morning, before their shift at the hospital, Mallory Shepherd and Alex Karev sat up playing an intense game of strip checkers. Mallory still had on most of her clothes while Alex was down to just a pair of pants.
"I don't see how this is fair," Alex complained halfway through the round. "You're unbeatable, even when I think I'm going to win, nope—"
"Come on," Mallory chuckled to herself, gesturing for him to take his turn. "You're so close this time."
Alex rolled his eyes playfully as he scoffed. "You're only saying that so you can win and make me take off my pants."
"And?"
He narrowed his eyes in response and focused his attention back onto the checkers board as he tried to figure out a way not to let her win. A minute into his concentration, the door to the apartment slammed open to reveal Callie Torres.
"Damn it, Torres," he exclaimed, throwing his arms into the air. "You messed up my focus. I was this close to winning."
"No, you weren't. Nice try, though," Callie replied sarcastically before she noticed he was only wearing his jeans. "Dude, where are your clothes?"
"Your new friend made me take them all off—"
Mallory began shaking her head as she talked over him, making him cross his arms against his chest. "He lost in strip checkers. Don't be upset, I was gonna take off my shirt to make you happy when it was over."
A chip here, a crack there.
Doing damage to ourselves.
To other people.
Callie groaned and leaned against the counter as she complained. "How are you two like the perfect couple, and you're not even a couple."
"George, again?"
"It isn't as much George as it is Izzie and Meredith," Callie confessed, seeming bothered as she shook her head. "I know I've said it before, but they're going to end up killing me in my sleep, just to get George back to themselves."
Alex chuckled, not taking her seriously as he told her. "Mer isn't that bad, she's just dark. Like really dark. But once you get to know her properly, she's one of the good ones. Izzie, however, good luck with that one."
