When you're little, nighttime is scary because there are monsters hiding right under the bed. When you get older, the monsters are different.
Self-doubt, loneliness, regret...
And though you may be older and wiser, you still find yourself scared of the dark.
When they had a break from the hospital, Mallory Shepherd and Alex Karev went over to Meredith and Derek's house. They stood in the living room with Derek, while Meredith was upstairs with Sadie, which made Mallory narrow her eyes at the stairs.
"So," Mallory started with her arms crossed. "You wanted to get rid of Izzie, but you're welcoming Sadie Harris with open arms? Make that make sense to me."
"I am not welcoming her, Mallory. Besides, I'm sure that she is not the same girl she was when she was in high school," Derek attempted to insist. "Between you and Cristina, you two need to give her a chance."
"She doesn't seem that bad," Alex added with a shrug. "Maybe she's changed."
"I highly doubt that," Mallory retorted with a chuckle. "She'll prove me right, wait and see."
Derek chuckled as he changed the subject. "So, when you say that you two have been together since you were interns. When exactly would that have been?"
"Derek—"
"Come on, I'm curious," Derek interrupted, trying to prove that he wasn't grilling her for answers, just asking. "Now that I know, I'm allowed to have a few questions."
"We first got together when, um, Sloan came to town?" Alex made a guess, unsure of when they actually made it official. "We would've made it official sometime after that."
The Shepherd man then turned to his sister for confirmation. Mallory rolled her eyes dramatically as she confirmed. "Yeah, yeah, that sounds about right. Why? Who cares?"
"Well, you two have been together for a while now," Derek continued, eyeing his youngest sister as he stated. "I'm hoping that you two will tell me when you're getting more serious about things."
"We're living together, Derek," Mallory reminded him with furrowed brows. "I don't know how much more serious it could get."
"I'm just saying, if I find out that the two of you ran off to Vegas and got hitched, I will have every reason to be upset," Derek stressed to them. "Addison's been in my ear saying it for over ten years, and she better not be right."
