Doctors live in a world of constant progress and forward motion.

Stand still for a second, and you'll be left behind.

But as hard as we try to move forward, as tempting as it is to never look back...

The past always comes back to bite us in the ass.

And as history shows us again and again, those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it.

At one of the nurse's stations, Mallory Shepherd stood with Miranda Bailey. After complaints from Alex, Richard assigned the resident to Bailey's service in an attempt to force her to take it easier at work, which only made Mallory grow infuriated.

"You know, you're lucky that Tucker never worked at the hospital," Mallory told the attending with a sigh. "You were able to do whatever you wanted."

"I guess that's a good point," Bailey replied with a shrug of her shoulders. "Tell Karev that you're still early in your pregnancy, you have a little time before you have to take it easy."

"Don't you think I've tried, Bailey?" Mallory was quick to respond. "He refuses to leave the subject alone, and he's starting to gather an army of people against me. Louis, Derek, Mark— I need you on my side in this."

"Of course I'm on your side," Bailey insisted, which settled the resident for only a second. "I've done it before. Now, it wasn't easy by any means."

Mallory's brows furrowed as she pointed out. "But you made it look so easy."

"That's because I refused to appear as weak," Bailey explained with a chuckle. "When you get a nickname like the Nazi, you have a reputation to uphold."

"I don't know how you did it. There are just so many things to worry about," Mallory continued with her concerns. "Like godparents, I wanna get the godparents picked out sooner than later. Does Tuck have godparents?"

"With the things we see on a daily basis?" Bailey replied with a raised brow. "Of course, he has godparents."

All Mallory could do was nod slowly, knowing that the attending was right with her words. With every horrible, terrifying cases that they saw from day to day, it only made sense that surgeons would have godparents picked out in a heartbeat.

"Now I just have to think of who."

"You can either do friends, family, whoever you feel would raise your children the same way you would want," Bailey explained simply. "Make sure you put some thought into your decision."
