When Mallory Shepherd and Alex Karev got invited to a gathering at Meredith and Derek's house, Louis Carmichael was quick to volunteer to babysit. He insisted that the new parents should take the opportunity to go out on their own for one night, which had yet to happen since they had welcomed Carter into their lives.

It's a common belief that positive thinking leads to a happier, healthier life.

"Should I call Louis?" Mallory questioned as they stood in the hallway. "Do you think he's doing okay with Carter?"

"Mal, Carter was practically asleep when we left," Alex was quick to insist. "I'm sure that Louis is managing just fine."

"I just, I've never seen him around children like this," Mallory continued, but she paused when she noticed Alex messing with his tie. "Stop fidgeting with your tie. Otherwise, I'm going to have to tie it again."

Alex only narrowed his eyes as he put his hands down at his side. With a shake of his head, he complained. "I hate wearing ties. You know I hate wearing ties."

"I'm at a party, wearing a dress that I haven't worn since before I had Carter," Mallory countered with a raised brow. "I think we both can suffer here."

"You're suffering?" Alex repeated, looking her up and down. "Your body looks exactly the same."

"The same?" Mallory couldn't help but smile as she replied. "Now you're just trying to compliment me, so I'll let you take the tie off. However, you and I both know that Holly would have my head if I ever let that happen."

Even with his fiancée's optimism, Alex continued to complain. "How come Louis gets to stay home with Carter? Isn't he supposed to be our ticket out of these kinds of events?"

"We are here to support my brother," Mallory made sure to remind him. "Besides, we'll use that as our excuse when we leave here in about an hour."

"Why should we give it that long?" Alex retorted as he glanced into the party. "This party blows."

They walked further into the party, and just as Alex said, there wasn't much going on. Everyone stood around with drinks in their hands as they made small conversation. They stumbled across Lexie and Meredith Grey first, and when Lexie saw them, she smiled widely.

"Look at you, Mallory Shepherd, out of the house in a beautiful dress. You look amazing," Lexie greeted her, and then she started glancing around. "Where's Louis? I thought he'd be here."
