The one time of the year that Mallory Shepherd loved more than anything was Christmas. She wasn't sure if it was the feeling of being with family or that it forced everyone to act in good spirits, but she cherished that time more than anything. The one time of the year when everyone acts happy, no matter what.

She dug through the Christmas decorations that Addison had given her from her and Derek's brownstone in New York, which made the usually calm apartment turn into a fantastic winter wonderland.

Christmas tunes played on the radio as Mallory drank hot chocolate and danced around her apartment. Then a knock came from the door, making her turn down the music a few notches as she placed a few more decorations on the shelf.

"One minute!" she called out, which only made the knocking continue but louder. "Okay, okay, I'm coming. I'm coming!"

When she opened the door, Alex Karev stood with a grin as he held up a board game and a bottle of wine. His eyes widened as he started looking at the different decorations she had hung up.

"Merry Christmas," he exclaimed as he walked in. "Oh God, you've really outdone yourself."

"I know, isn't it great?" replied Mallory, her smile only getting wider. "Is this a bottle of wine? Oh my goodness, and sorry! You didn't have to get me anything."

He shrugged his shoulders casually, trying to stop a smile from coming onto his face. "Figured I should get a gift for somebody. Is that hot chocolate?"

"You're lucky, because of course, as the best gift giver that I am, I had to get you something," she told him as she continued to organize the decorations. "And yes, that's what we drink in New York. This old ritual thing, it's supposed to give you good juju."

"I'm sorry, juju?"

Mallory let out a chuckle and poured him some into a mug. She gave him the hot chocolate and took his other hand as she led him to the guest bedroom. As they entered the room, Alex looked around with a face of confusion.

"Since when did you have another bedroom?" he asked curiously. "You don't even have a second bed in here."

"Why would I?" she questioned in response with a smirk. "You'd be the only one to use it. And you just took up half of my bed, so you don't need it."

Alex nodded in agreeance, finally taking a sip of the hot chocolate. "Woah, I see what you mean. I'm gonna need a recipe or something."

After going through a pile of neatly wrapped gifts, Mallory finally found the present. She turned back to Alex, feeling her face heat up as she handed it to him. He opened it to find a watch, and his eyes went wide as he saw how expensive it looked.
