After careful consideration and many sleepless nights, here's what I've decided. There's no such thing as a grown-up.
We move on, we move out, we move away from our families, and form our own.
But the basic insecurities, the basic fears, and all those old wounds just grow up with us.
And just when we think that life and circumstance have forced us to truly, once and for all become an adult...
When Mallory Shepherd woke up the next morning, there was a shirtless Alex Karev in the bed next to her. Her mind began to panic as she checked under the covers, which only confirmed her suspicions.
It was then that she actually began to freak out. All she could remember was them taking shots in her kitchen and laughing the way they always did, and one thing led to another and somehow they ended up in the bedroom.
Mallory quickly began shaking Alex awake as he grumbled out. "What? What time is it?"
"Does it matter?" she exclaimed in response. "We just slept together and you're asking the time?"
Alex fully sat up in bed, his eyes wide. He realized that Mallory only had one of his shirts on, and she stood at the side of the bed. He stretched his arms as he said. "You don't have to freak out, it's not like we have to do anything about it. We're adults, we're entitled to our own fun."
"Sure, we're supposed to act normal," Mallory retorted and playfully narrowed her eyes. "Because I'm amazing at that."
"You are when it comes to Derek and Addison," Alex reminded her as he began to kiss her neck. "Come on, you can't pretend like you didn't enjoy it."
She chuckled as she made her way into the kitchen, Alex following behind her. On the counter where Mallory's phone sat, another notification went off, but this time it showed that Mark Sloan was calling her.
"What the hell?" Mallory's eyes went wide. "Why on earth is Mark calling me?"
"What? Shit."
Mallory turned to face him as she asked. "Do you know something about this?"
The Karev man shrugged his shoulders, not even able to make eye contact with her as he blurted. "You trapped yourself in a room with a bomb, Mallory. I thought you were going to die. Really, it's Izzie's fault."
"What the hell did you do?"
"I got scared, okay?" Alex tried to defend himself. "And O'Malley started asking if anyone had called you or Mer's family, and I started talking about Sloan. And Izzie told me to do it."
