The problem with life is that tragic things happen to good people.

The next day, Mallory Shepherd arrived back at the hospital. And it didn't take long before Addison Montgomery led her into Richard's office. The two of them were in there alone, and Mallory took a seat in his chair, spinning around while she was lost in thought.

Even though she knew it wasn't possible, Mallory wished that she could make the miscarriage go away, but no matter how hard she tried to force herself to move past it, all she could think about was her excitement that was followed by the expression on Addison's face, a look she would never forget. And then the look on Alex's face, which would haunt her mind forever.

"You know, you could try talking to me, Mal," Addison started with a sigh. "You have to talk to someone, I know that—"

"Except you don't know, Addie," Mallory snapped in response. "I don't want to talk to anyone, and I especially don't want to talk to you."

"How about Violet? Or Katie?" Addison suggested, which made her roll her eyes. "Don't give me that look, Mallory Claire. They are your therapists, and you went through something horrible. You have to be feeling some sort of way about it."

"I don't know, I don't know how to explain it," Mallory told her with a shrug. "Can't I just wait to talk to them?"

Addison sat down next to her, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder while she nodded. "You could, but I don't think it'll make you feel any better."

"I'll think about talking to Violet, okay?" Mallory grumbled in reply. She leaned back into the chair while she asked. "When can I get back to work? There are patients here that I could be seeing, work I could do."

Her sister was silent for a moment before she revealed. "Until you talk to someone, you're not operating or touching any patients. Richard made the call this morning when I informed him of the situation."

"Are you serious?" Mallory exclaimed, looking angrier than she had before. "What the hell, Addison? I'm fine, just because—"

"You lost a child, Mallory," Addison stated clearly. "And you're trying to act as if it never happened. Look, I'm sorry, but I'm not changing my mind."

Every day, everywhere, someone is grieving. But the real question is, how do people process their grief?

Mallory rolled her eyes in response, slouching further into the chair. Addison let out a sigh, hating to see her like this as she questioned. "Where's Alex? Have you guys tried talking about it? It's hard, but it can help."
