The morning before their shift began, Mallory Shepherd and Alex Karev were lying in bed. Both of them were wide awake, but neither had the desire to leave the bed to prepare for the day, even though they knew it was a matter of time before they had to.
If you're a normal person, one of the few things you can count on in life is death.
"Have you noticed that the interns have been extra annoying lately?" Mallory questioned as she laid on his chest. "I know that they're craving more intense surgeries, but so are we."
"Mine are always annoying. I hardly know any of their names," Alex replied with a chuckle. "I only know Louis and Lexie's because of you."
She rolled her eyes playfully as she insisted. "Lexie's a good friend and you know it."
Mallory pulled off the blanket and stepped out of bed, only dressed in a bra and a pair of sweatpants, while Alex was only in his boxers, not expecting any visitors before they headed off to work.
"So, Hahn and Callie?" Alex asked with a raised brow. "That's really happening?"
"I think?" Mallory answered in an unsure tone. "Well, here's the current answer that I know, Callie thinks."
But if you're a surgeon, even that comfort is taken away from you.
They heard the sound of the front door to the apartment open, and they shared a look of confusion. They weren't sure who it was, because between Louis, Meredith, Lexie, and Callie, none of their friends knocked most of the time.
"Princess," Mark called out from the living room. "I'm sorry that I barged in, but I need to rant about Torres."
With a look of panic, they scrambled to put on some type of clothing, but before they even had a chance to move towards the closet, Mark Sloan walked into the bedroom and immediately turned back around, closing the door behind him.
"Jesus," Mallory muttered as she put on a shirt. "Since when did you forget how to knock—"
"Both of you put on proper clothes," Mark ordered, not even letting her finish her sentence. "I did not need to see that this morning."
Mallory walked out of the room first with her hands on her hips. "I don't know why it was such a surprise. You know that we're together, even you said that you were starting to get used to it."
"I may know about it, but it doesn't mean I want to see it."
"You're the one who barged into our apartment," Mallory pointed out, refusing to take any of the blame. "You should've known about the chances. Callie's made that mistake a time or two."
