The next morning, Meredith Grey stopped by Mallory Shepherd and Alex Karev's apartment early in the morning. Lexie Grey was also there, as she typically was, as they all shared cups of coffee in the kitchen.

"So, how's everything been going?" Meredith asked from her place at the kitchen table. "Besides the morning sickness, of course."

"It's going. I have to have decaf coffee because my fiance hates me, which might be the worst of it all," Mallory started to complain, before she checked around the corner and whispered. "I don't know where he is, but this isn't decaf. I deserve one cup of regular coffee a day. One."

"Who would've thought that Alex would be the one knowing everything?" Lexie chuckled in response. "He seems so cautious and worried about it all."

"Tell me about it."

Meredith let out a chuckle, knowing that since Alex had found out about Mallory being pregnant, his demeanor had begun to change. He was much more protective and always worried for his fiancée, which she found to be a nice side of him to see.

"Has Derek said anything to you yet?" Lexie asked, which made Mallory narrow her eyes. "Come on, it's not like he can be pissed at you forever."

"I don't know, he very well could be," Mallory countered with a sigh. "When he found out that Alex and I were together, it was this huge deal because I've always kept secrets from him. And I promised that I wouldn't do it anymore."

"Well," Meredith shrugged her shoulders. "I think that taught you not to make promises."

"But I didn't mean to break it," Mallory attempted to insist. "I was gonna tell him, but every time I thought about it, I chickened out. I mean, you know how judgy he is."

Lexie nodded along as she agreed with her friend. "Yeah, he probably would've had something to say about it. Has he mentioned anything to you, Mer? You're the one who lives with me. He has to talk about it."

"Anytime I bring it up, Derek says that he doesn't want to talk about it with me," Meredith answered, which Mallory partially expected. "That's the one thing that stayed in his marriage with Addison, co-parenting you."

"That's stupid," Mallory complained as she crossed her arms. "That's how I used to find out if he was still pissed or was ready for an apology. There goes my advantage."

"Is he always this complicated?" Lexie questioned next. "Why can't you just apologize and it be over with?"

All Mallory could do was sigh as she retorted. "I wish it could be that simple."
